As long as we were talking classics, here are some other classics that we have recently been bought as crushers.... The 52 5 window I bought when the boss was on vacation, but he has laid claim to it. It is all complete only missing the hubcaps. The 59 Impala is rusty in the floorboards but has lots of good pieces.

I know exactly what you are sayin', We bought out a yard about 2 miles from us and crushed it out. On my lunch I went and cut a big window panel out of a 66 before it got crushed... the Boss gave me a hard time saying what do you want that for? you already got two.... you wont use the ones you already have. I just could let it get crushed, I told him they were on the endangered species list, one they are gone they are gone! just like the dinosoaurs!!

All of them for now!!! we have 20 acres so room isn't a problem for awhile....

We crush so many vehicles each day, most are tempos and luminas and the such but there are others that should be saved.... old ford pickups, old mustangs, we crushed an old pink caddy the other day.

I would have a colorado frame and drivetrain under that 52 so fast it the mold on the body wouldnt even have time to dry out.

No way I could work there either. Like one of these people that chains himself to a tree that is slated to be cut down, I'd regularly be locking myself inside the worthwhile cars and trucks that were headed for the crusher. LOL

Ha, hilarious. I live right by a place and there is a rust-free 64 Caddy in line to become compressed memories. It IS for sale, only $2500 - and if I had the room I'd get it. It has everything, including the hubcaps - everything EXCEPT the carb. Strangely, the 500 in it appears somewhat freshly rebuilt. All interior and trim is there - though pretty worn out. It's sweet. Yes, a 2 door hardtop.

Ugh, I don't know how you can work there either... I can't even stand driving by the place. They have several 60-66 trucks that are not for sale, and not for parting either apparently. You're gonna get me on a rant.

thats a shame to crush them.i have a friend building a 51 that would have loved to purchase those rear fenders.

I posted an ad on the local Craigslist to all scrappers that I was interested in any 67-72 Chevy/GMC truck, suburban or blazer. Just to get any worth while parts off of them before they got crushed. I had two people reply and then it kept getting flagged. All I was trying to do was do the hobby a favor. Its not like I wanted them for free, I said cash or scrap steel to cover the weight that I removed.

Either way they were going to make money. Its just stupid. Right now I know where there is a 71 1/2 ton longbox sitting with a bed full of scrap metal that is probably going to roll across the scale as a unit. I checked it out and it has perfect trailing arms, also all of the disc set up, good glass, and a fairly solid front clip. I don't know who owns it so I can't try to work out a deal with them.

Being an auto salvage owner for the last 21 years, you cant save them all but you can save the best ones. My yellow 69 swb in my build thread was bought from the original owner who called my salvage to sell his old truck for scrap.
With scrap metal prices at $300 per ton they are getting more rare by the day.

BTW: I gave him $400 for the yellow 69.
