So I broke down and took some pics..

Well I finally broke down and snapped some pics of the '72 last night before she went back in the storage unit for awhile. Since I bought if from dad almost two years ago I've done alot of work to it....but most was accomplished the last 3 weeks in the back of my heated shop lol. I replaced all the turn signal/marker lenses; led taillights; all new window weatherstrip as well as door panel foam; new speedometer; installed a tach; replaced the wiper motor; new window washer reservoir, cap and tubing; chrome door edge guards and vent visors; mud flaps; 2010 2500HD rims; bug deflector; new park brake cable on the driver's side; rebuilt the front axle with new u-joints/seals/packed hubs; new Custom/20 fender emblems; new ignition switch and door locks to match (plus put the neat lil chrome piece under it); new radio and speaker; new inner glovebox; installed a disconnect through the battery so the damn thing quits going dead on me....I think that about covers it for now. I've still got some stuff to do to it yet like put the new dash pad on, eventually find a bed and install...yeah I've got a list somewhere. I hate to keep boring you guys with type so here's some pics!!

Re: So I broke down and took some pics..

I put in the cup holders thinking that it'd be nicer than the one on the floor....I'm not really liking them much so I may wind up putting the ashtray back in. The only thing that's changing much in the near future is the wheels (again). My brother in law wants the factory style for his '06 so I'm trading him those for a set of American Racing wheels with about 60% Goodyear Wranglers in 265/75 16's. Sooooo now I've got a whole bunch of those high dollar 9/16 inner, metric outer thread lug nuts I have no use for. In fact I have 40 of em plus a set of 2010 Chevy center caps....anybody wanting to change wheels? lol. This pickup was bought from dad's neighbor out on the farm. He bought it new in late '71 and dad bought it from him when I was between 4 and 5. He completely restored it then, put a flat bed on it, and it was rarely driven until I was about 12. Grandpa sold his service pickup so the '72 was outfitted with two fuel tanks, a tool box, air compressor and all the spare parts for a farm service pickup. Dad finally decided to update to a '01 Chevy ext cab long bed dually 4x4 for another pulling pickup so his '94 Chevy 1 ton 4x4 became the service wagon for now. This thing was supposed to be mine when I was old enuff to drive so you all know who wanted it baaaad. Gave the old man $4500 for it so I know I didn't get hurt. As soon as mom can get them sent to me, I've got two pics from the day dad brought it home. It's pretty rough, but the cool part is it's got me in the background coming out to see dad's new ride.

Few more...the last two show the disconnect on the support between the grille and the radiator support. Works great cuz all I have to do is reach behind the front bumper!!

Re: So I broke down and took some pics..

Nice looking truck, I like the wheels on it.

Just a heads up, when you replace spark plug wires buy a set for a 75 corvette, they are for HEI's and ramhorn manifolds, they are long enought to install from underneath and give it a clean look with no more burnt wires draped over the manifolds

Re: So I broke down and took some pics..

I really like your truck. It's a great example of how a truck could have been ordered and outfitted to an owner's needs. A truck that was bought to be a truck by someone who took enough pride to take proper care of it.

Re: So I broke down and took some pics..

Thanks for all the compliments guys! Dad bought it since this had always been his favorite body style and we restored it for occasional use....turned into full time duty for alot of years! Used to have a tow hitch on the front so we could drag it field to field behind the implements so the whole front end needs some "pit removal." The deflector is hiding about half a dozen sizeable (quarter inch maybe) chips in the hood. I'm going to eventually redo the front end when a bed makes an appearance. When it was redone the first time there were no aftermarket companies so all the sheetmetal was replaced with original. I'm gonna need a new passenger front fender due to a rust spot coming through from the battery acid but otherwise she's in pretty good shape! Oh...yeah it was a little cold but the engine in it is, shall we say, "less than stock!" The racing oil pump keeps the psi up quite nicely lol.

Great truck&history! I would recommend fixing the passenger fender. Cut out the rust and make your own patch panel. It wont take that long and you can be sure of the fit! I've never been happy with non OEM fenders and how poorly they fit! cheers, Pat

I stopped in and talked to the local bodyshop owner today as we had been talking about this body style (he's got a one owner '69 K5 that's blaze orange with a white top and white interior-BEAUTIFUL!!). He told me it wouldn't take much to chop it out and replace it. As many guys on here talk poorly about aftermarket sheetmetal I wasn't about to go that route! That fender is actually a '72 Custom 30 fender since the original owner's daughter had an oops and crunched it some 30 + years ago!
