Pics of 250 Monojet choke/fast idle cable linkage

Does anyone have any. Im having an issue with mine and was curious to see what it is supposed to look like.

The primary issue is the cable is secured to the firewall too far away from the carb. This causes the cable to contort as opposed to properly disengaging the choke.

Just to clarify this is the manually operated knob type choke/throttle cable.

If it like mine it should have a clamp for the end of the cable attached to the carb.....near the choke actuator. I'll try and find a pic...but if I have to take one it might be tomorrow.

This is the best pic I have. You can see how the cable casing runs up to the choke valve and is clamped. I dont know if this is correct for our trucks...but it works. Good luck.

Looks like mine.I have to keep everything lubed or it tends to bind a bit.If you don't have it clamped at the carb it will not work correctly. You probably need it some in Ga.

Yeah, the thing works like poo poo.

Im really curious what that bracket mounts to on the carb as I am planning on fabbing something up to fix my problem.

Yeah-mine looks pretty much the same as 68 Iron's:

I thought I had a better picture. I'll keep looking for a minute.

Re: Pics of 250 Monojet choke/fast idle cable linkage

Ok, the bracket in question is "U" shaped with one tab for the throttle return spring and the other with a built in clamp rolled on the end. This is mounted on the back of the carb with what appears to be one screw. If this tab broke off on yours.....I dont know where you (or I) would get a replacement, other than making one. I'll stay tuned....post some pics of what we're looking at if you can.

You can see the clamp without the screw in the first pic and the return spring in the second.

Re: Pics of 250 Monojet choke/fast idle cable linkage

Thank you fellas. That was very nice of you.

My setup is missing the U shaped bracket. I have a throttle return spring cobbled up on top of the carb somewhere and the choke cable is mounted to the master cylinder (way back away from the carb) and the end of the cable is just threaded through the correct hole in the linkage.

Gives the cable all kinds of play. It makes it so when I do a cold start everything is fine. (thankfully) However I cannot ever get the choke totally off. I can get the fast idle to come down but the choke plate is still partially (mostly) covering the intake opening. I have to kind of run a fine balance between keeping the fast idle going or choking the engine into a stall.

So yeah, definitely need that bracket. Probably will make one. Great pictures.

Should be able to get one off of almost any50's-70 manual choke 6 cyl.I an't remember if the v8 used the same or not.You might also find a cabe clamp like that on a cable for a heater or something.

Re: Pics of 250 Monojet choke/fast idle cable linkage

It is a good thought but six cylinder engines are not exactly growing on trees here. If they were, I might just have another straight six setting around here.

Should not be too big of a fab job though. I work at a shop which does quite a bit of mechanical projects. Should be able to get it done during my lunch break.

Re: Pics of 250 Monojet choke/fast idle cable linkage

I'm missing that linkage too! I just rebuilt the carb and have no idea where it went. It's a rochester monojet single carb off my 70' 250. I'm not sure exactly what shape it is. There's a pic of a good linkage in here but anybody have measurements?
