Anyone else regret getting rid of their first squarebody?

Not one day goes by when I think about my first square. I sold it back in November and I'm still kicking myself in the ass. Turns out it only needed valve seals to fix the "burns 4 quarts of oil a week" problem I had. And the guy doesn't want to get rid of it again.

It's saddening, knowing all the work I did to it and I'll never enjoy it again. :/

Yes.

That's why I'm looking for another one, and I think I finally found the one I want. It's a CC diesel up in Oregon, about 10 hours from me.

my first square body was an 85 three on the tree, had to sell it and get an automatic in 97 when my daughters started to drive.

need I explain?

Re: Anyone else regret getting rid of their first squarebody?

I miss my 86 GMC but the one that hurt the most was my Dad's 76 GMC stepside. It was brown with awesome three color stripes down the sides. Had a set of Cragar S/S wheels on it. He called her "Honeybell" I LOVED that truck. He said I would get her when I turned sixteen. One of my sister's ex-husbands talked him out of it when I was 15 or so. I was heartbroken, then he put a set of cheap white wagon wheel rims on it and a big old ugly camper in the back. I don't know what happened to Honeybell but my guess is she has returned to the earth.

Re: Anyone else regret getting rid of their first squarebody?

My 1st square was a 78 GMC swb fleetside, I would have kept it but a lady pulled out in front of me and totalled it. I bought a 74 body and tranfered my interior/motor/trans/bed/rear end. Unfortunatlly I totalled it a year later being stupid and DWI. I do regret it.

Re: Anyone else regret getting rid of their first squarebody?

Although my 1st square was a 83 k5 blazer i do miss it. It was a 350 from a 81 z28 and it was originally a diesel. I was working for a chevy dealership in 1993 when i bought it and bought some pieces it was missing when i bought it. It needed a little floor work in the back by the tailgate but i smoked a monte carlo SS with it and laughed my backside all day long after that. I blew up the 700r4 in it and replaced it with a th 350 and i will never forget it as i sold it way to cheap. Crappy thing was i was 20 years old and my insurance was 231.00 a month JUST FOR LIABILITY!!! And it was costing me about 75.00 a week in fuel and that was back in 1994-5.

thanks
pat

Re: Anyone else regret getting rid of their first squarebody?

I still have my first truck and it is a square, but then again I'm only 17. And my truck needs a lot of work just to get it drivable. Working on getting a parts truck for it.

Re: Anyone else regret getting rid of their first squarebody?

i miss mine as well

1987 R10 GMC Sierra, all original with 65,000 miles, with the TBI 350. ran like a champ. the cleanest square ive seen to date.

but they don't fair to well against a hydroplaning semi.

Totalled my '77 C20 crew in 1990. It was a rust bucket but I lived and it gave me a life long love of squares.

Re: Anyone else regret getting rid of their first squarebody?

I learned to drive on my first sqaure

my grandpa bought it new and it was a farm truck

Brought it into my high school shop to work on it... and bite of WAY more then i could chew... ended up "parting it out"...

I would give any thing to have that truck bad...

Young and stupid...

Yep.
I bought a loaded red/red '86 swb new in 1986.

Re: Anyone else regret getting rid of their first squarebody?

I miss mine. It was a 78 4X4 Scottsdale short box. It was metallic brown with buckskin interior. 400 small block with turbo 400. It wasn't pretty but it ran great and got me everywhere I was going with out and trouble. I tried to buy it back a couple of times but have lost track of it now.

Re: Anyone else regret getting rid of their first squarebody?

Yep. Sold it when I became a company car driver.

I bet I didn't have that company car a month or two before they took it away.

I still have square #2, but square #1 was really cool-er.

Re: Anyone else regret getting rid of their first squarebody?

Since I really didn't give my first square's story, here goes.

I came to visit my uncle after he got off work, and one of his buddy's from work stopped over at his house. I saw it and said "Hey that's a pretty sweet truck". My uncle blurted out "It has a 4 speed!". I looked right at Bob (the owner of it at the time) and said "I'll trade ya." (I had a '77 Lincoln Mark V). He said "Are you serious?" I said "Yep". Funny thing is, we never met before and after that we've become pretty good friends since that day.

And it went from there. Ended up getting it 3 weeks later. Had a tube grille on it, swapped it out for a stock '77 - '79 grille, and swapped the stepside bed out for a fleetside bed. I also put a dash pad from a '83 Chevy in it, $20 from the junkyard!! Done a lot of work to it, personalized it. I had a lot of plans for it, like fixing the rocker panels, cab corners, passenger floor, rewire the tail lights (they worked when they wanted to), and a bunch of other plans. I ended up selling it back to Bob because the replacement engine that went in it burned 4-5 quarts of oil a week. Ended up being the valve seals, which makes me want it back so bad because I have a nice set of 305 heads just sitting around I could use.
