So you"ve upgraded your headlight harness...
Me to. Did mine about 5 years ago from Classic industries. Glad I did it. Now I need to replace the relay for the high beams. Anyone else had an issue with finding the relay? I did get a "maybe a mitsubishi MB 627 895 will work". Looks similar in the book, they also mentioned a Borg Warner R5008 and a Carquest 56-2054. No local retailer have any of these in stock. Thanks, Chris

Re: So you"ve upgraded your headlight harness...
I used the same relays as the low beam. 12 volts is 12 volts. 30 amp relay. They are good for the 14 volts the alternator puts out.

Re: So you"ve upgraded your headlight harness...
Andy, hi I saw that they were the exact same, thats how I diagnosed the issue. Just looking for a replacement that is a direct fit. TR65 pm'd me this: My relay is a Song Chuan 804-1A-C1
Here is the spec sheet on it. http://www.therelaycompany.com/datafiles/804.pdf Here is an ebay listing for it ($3.60+$6.00) http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-Car-Powe...-/140473712708 Of course you could splice in most any 30 amp automotive relay with the pigtail that goes with it. |

Re: So you"ve upgraded your headlight harness...
OK,
I used them from Radio shack ones. I did my own wiring connectors and all.

Re: So you"ve upgraded your headlight harness...
Just pick up a 5 spade one at your local parts store.
-1st, they are already in the U.S.(not Taiwan-->E-Bay) -There only about $5.00 or less. -Just don't use the 87a terminal. Picked this Bosch one up at Napa. . .

Re: So you"ve upgraded your headlight harness...
I did mine 5 or 6 years ago and got used relays form a wrecked Dodge Caravan ( which I think the wrecker charged me a 1.00 each ) and everything still works as it should. THis is great upgrade for 15.00 worth of parts and 2 or 3 hours work.

Re: So you"ve upgraded your headlight harness...
hehe, I did this upgrade on the 71 and it didn't last 2 weeks. Had to unplug it all and go back to stock to even get the lights to come on. It was in Bremerton though and we all know how wet it is, think my relays might have gotten some moisture in them and fried. One day I'll go back through it and troubleshoot.

Re: So you"ve upgraded your headlight harness...
Help ! Upon further review??? I have a drivers side low beam on my 68 GMC, thats it, I replaced the other Low beam and checked the lights and all 4 worked, 3 days later and I~m back to 1 drivers side low beam? could it be relays?, these are aftermarket (metal cube relays w/only 2 terminals w/threadeds and nuts to connect the ring terminals too)??

Re: So you"ve upgraded your headlight harness...
Two terminal relays? Metal Cube? Are these horn relays? Definately sounds like the wrong components are being used. There are several write-ups on this subject. Just go to your local napa grab two 30amp 4-pole relays (Bosch, GE, Sylvania, Delco- it don't matter, 12v is 12v). Make sure to also put in a 20a inline fuse on the power wire from the battery- it's cheap insurance.
