1969 CST Tach or no Tach?

Noticed this neat truck listed on eBay (not mine). The SPID lists overdrive trans and speed warning but NOT a tach. The build sheet DOES list a tach. Hmmm?? Was tach part of the OD trans equipment or did the SPID typer make a mistake?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-...item20c22ce19f

P.S. I'd like to copy/paste the ebay pix on this post for posterity but I can't figure it out. If someone can do that, please do.

Re: 1969 CST Tach or no Tach?

That '69 appears to have a '70 grille insert. Hey,where's them tailgate letters?...or at least the holes for them? What are those mirrors off of? I like 'em. Would a CST in '69 come with the side marker light option and then have the deluxe lenses? It's an early production and maybe slipped in ahead of the marker light beginnings? I see a few oddities on this truck.

Re: 1969 CST Tach or no Tach?

Here's what I see:
1) Grille is a 70 and headlight bezels should be black painted steel. Perhaps the grille was replaced due to damage.
2) There are holes for the tailgate letters. The letters appear to have been removed.
2) Early 69s did not have the deluxe markers. In fact my early December CST doesn't even have lights in the markers. I was told by Chevrolet that deluxe markers were used starting around mid-Dec.
3) No cargo light is correct for early 69 CSTs. Also added later in the model year.
4) Inside mirror is mounted on the windshield. Inside mirrors were an option and most of us just had the mirrors adhered to the windshield at a later date.

Except for the grille (not sure about the exterior mirrors) this truck looks very correct and original including under the hood (except for the replacement A/C compresor which has the electrical connector at the wrong position... S/B at 10:00).

Re: 1969 CST Tach or no Tach?

Wow, I thought I knew these trucks but I guess there is always something to learn. I'm bidding on this truck and have talked to the seller (who isn't the owner) and apparently its a one owner truck. If I get it I'll meet the owner when I pick it up and maybe find out when the changes were done. I don't really need thsi truck but I love the black color ( with the patina) the 3 on the tree and the the fact it's a CST with A/C and very original. I'm tired of looking for a 72 Burb and will see if this will keep me happy over the summer. The box floor has holes and needs to be replaced.

Re: 1969 CST Tach or no Tach?

I was just looking at the pics of that truck again and noticed that a "T" has been added to the front outlet on the master cylinder with a line to the cowl. There is also a box of some sort mounted under the dash near the column. This could be a hydraulic trailer brake controller that was used at one time. I've never seen one. Can anyone verify this?

Yep, that is the line for the trailer brake and that is what is under the steering column. In those years that is how you had to hook up a trailer brake which isn't like today where all you do is plug and play. The 1970 I just bought has the same thing and it is hooked up the same way at the master cylinder.

Re: 1969 CST Tach or no Tach?

Hope this helps. My 69 CST has the side marler lights the deluxe type. they are old enough to be orig. It has no cargo lamp, I will check the SPID to see. From what I am reading above Your saying an early model year 69 CST's did not have the option of side marker lights. Thats interesting to say the least.

Thanks for the info..... Makes me wonder bout mine....

Re: 1969 CST Tach or no Tach?

Yes,the first side marker lights were offered in late-69 as an option, then standard in '70. Once the lighted markers were offered,CSTs had lighted deluxe lenses...standard.

Greg,I hope you win the '69. Then you can swap the grille inserts and have correct trucks . That's funny, both trucks are very correct except both have the others correct grille. You are looking at both examples of correct grilles...in the the wrong year truck!

Yea, I posted those pics at work last night and driving home this morning I had the thought that maybe both trucks were wrong and Tim, you just confirmed it.

I didn't realize speed warning was an option on 70 trucks. I again learned something.

Where did you read that the speed warning was a 70 option? The truck above with SW is a early 69.

According to the vehicle information kits available at www.gmheritagecenter.com both cruise control and speed warning were available on the 69s. Only cruise was available on the 70s. Makes sense that cruise would be preferred over a buzzer.
