If...

Pick a year between 1967 and 1972, you've just enlisted in the marines and bolstered by your newfound military career, you walk into a chevy or gmc dealership and order a brand new truck. What year and what options would you order, and why? If you already have your all stock (right down to the air cleaner and hubcaps, no mods) dream truck, then post a pic. I'll go first.

1971 GMC C1500, base model
  • lwb, fleetside
  • trailing arm rear suspension
  • light blue with parchment interior
  • 292 I6 engine
  • turbo 350 trans
  • power steering
  • power brakes
  • posi rear
  • front equalizer bar
  • front tow hooks
  • front and rear chrome bumpers
  • upper and lower side molding
  • tinted windows
  • AM push button radio
  • full gauge cluster with tach and vacuum
  • buddy buckets

I'm a minimalist, so I like a lot of options that make the truck very usable, but no too blingy. Things like tow hooks and posi make the truck workable, but at the same time I like poverty hubcaps for that simple classy look.

I like the look of the 68 chevys the best, but they didn't come with disc brakes, so... it had to be a 71 or 72. I prefer the gmc front end to chevy's eggcrate grill in those years.

Re: If...

I'll play along:
1971 Chevy C20
  • fleetside
  • rear leaf suspension, with overload leaves
  • medium blue, white top, with blue interior
  • 292 I6 engine
  • SM 465
  • power steering
  • power brakes
  • HO52 with 4.11 and NoSpin
  • front stabilizer bar
  • front tow hooks
  • painted rear step bumper
  • radio delete
  • manual throttle
  • under-bed toolbox

Re: If...

With my luck, I'd order the truck of my dreams, and then get shipped off to 'nam, ...

'69 C-10 lwb fleetside (steel floor)
no a/c
no p/s
250 L-6
3 on the tree.
buckets w/console
olive color w/ olive interior.
am/fm/8-track.
rear painted work bumper
front painted bumper.
steel wheels with small hubcaps.

Re: If...

The interesting thing is, if you asked me that the first time I saw or drove my truck, I would have changed a lot of stuff, but after all this time, I wouldn't have it any other way. I plan to add A/C and carpet, but other than that, the paint color, interior, everything is just how I want it to stay.

Medium Olive/White
Parchment interior
LWB 350 w/TH350
Power steering
full wheel covers

I have added a stabilizer bar to the front, so I guess that counts as a change too.

Re: If...

If I were to order a truck it would pretty much me like my truck. I wish the paint was not 40 years old, but the truck we are restoring will be identical to this one but will have a parchment interior.

Re: If...

I'd actually order Sameyrasmea's 72. I'm not kidding.

I WOULD consider doing the exact same truck in dark or med olive with the white top (only) also.... Im just sayin.

I LOVE that truck.

I agree with Jocko, Sameyrasmea72 your truck is flat out AWESOME!

My other choice would be a '67 short fleet CST equipped like Sameyrasmea72's truck. Color choice would probably be Med Poly Blue and white.

Re: If...

Curious why you guys would choose to order with a 6 cylinder or 3 on the tree. Personally I would want:

1971-72 Chevy C-10
big block, 4 speed
Highlander with buckets and console
tinted glass
Full gauges with tach/vac and manual throttle
AC, PS, PB, AM/FM, tilt
posi
front stabilizer
chrome bumpers
Probably a 2 tone, blue but I like a lot of the colors
long or short, wouldn't matter to me

Although a super stripped down 2wd blazer would have been cool to cruise around in if I was in a warmer climate.

[QUOTE=hgs_notes;5177382] Highlander with buckets and console

Was it possible to get Highlander with buckets/console? Would be a shame to get a Highlander and not have that purdy plaid bench seat material...

I think it was available because I had a set of highlander bucket seats from a blazer and the rear seat matched it. I think there was a brochure floating around that showed buckets in a highlander package.

It would be impossible as some options are mutually exclusive.

You couldn't have a truck with a TH400 and a 4 speed for instance.
