Will a 285/70/15 fit.......

Just wondering if anyone has tried a 285/70/15 on the rear of a fleetside with a 2" drop and a 71 rear end.

285/70R15 is the same basic dimensions of a LT31x10.50R15 but in a standard 4 ply passenger car configuration (introduced by BFG in the mid 90's for the street rod market) but has since been long discontinued.

I have 31's on my '65 Fleetside in stock height and there is plenty of room to go down 2".

I believe the rear end in my truck came from a '69 + model truck.

Newbie question...can you fit a bigger tire on a fleetside as apposed to a stepside on the rear

I have a 295/50 on my 'burb; bagged. 71-72 rearend. Without knowing wheel specs this is the only way I know how to do it.

BFG did make them at one point, I had them on my 65 Fleetside before I dropped it. I use 275/70-15 BFG Longtrails on 8" truck Rallyes now and they are a pain in the you know what to take on or off. My drop is 3" springs w/2" blocks. In order to remove them I have to disconnect my shocks and lower spring to T/A mount, that allows the rearend(5 lug 72) to drop low enough. The issue is the wheel and tire will not clear my wheelwell inner lip. I know I could roll the wheelwell lip but really don't want to. I think I will take the 255/70-15 TA's off of the front and put them on the rear and put 235's on the front. If you want your wheelwells filled with rear tire the 275 will do it. Attached are pics of the before and after with the old wheels,The 3rd pic is a bad cell phone pic of how the 275 fits, my avitar has the current look.

with 275-60-15 on 8in rim i have to put rear end on jack stands then jack up the frame to get tires on. this is with 3 in. lowering and leaf springs

I asked the same question and I think the response was no. Depending on how much the truck is lowered you should be able to fit a larger tier in a step side only because it has a higher wheel well.
