Wisdom
Tomorrow I have to get my wisdom teeth pulled. I hope it doesn't kill me. Does anybody have any horror stories about a tooth experience?
P.S. Will I loose what little wisdom I have when my wisdom teeth are pulled? |

Re: Wisdom
My appointment was at 2:00 pm.I had spent the week aching and listening to the guys at work tell horror stories.Everything from the dentist kneeling on their chest to months of pain afterwards.I walked in 5 min early and they had finished the prvious appointment so they took me right on back(it's a good thing,I would probably chickened out) and deadend me.Laid me back and I felt him scraping around on the left side then the instrument hit the pan.He scraped around on the right side for a min and then I heard the instrument again.I thought,OK he;s got the gum scraped away, the pain will probably start now.He started raising the chair, and I asked what's wrong? He said Nothing,we're doneI left the office at 2:15.The stories were the worst of it.The guaze wasn't comfortble but it wasn't that bad.Make sure you follow instructions because a buddy didn't and it took about 3 months for him to heal from dry socket.
Now for the fine print,:This is just my experience and YMMV!!"

Re: Wisdom
JUST kidding. Are they impacted? If so, that's a little more involved. Just assume you'll be miserable for a day and remember painkillers aren't just advisory afterward.

Re: Wisdom
I had my top two wisdom teeth pulled last year at age 44. Once he got me numbed up, It took the doc less than five minutes to get them out. A quick pry to loosen them then grab with pair of pliers and twist and wiggle, then clink, they're on the tray. I was amazed and impressed. The bleeding and the gauze for about 3 hours afterward was the worst part. I got started on the Oxycodone right awary and took it as directed until the bottle was empty and never felt any pain. It's not as bad as everyone tries to make you think. Good luck with it.

Re: Wisdom
Mine was not so good, I had 8 teeth pulled at the same time. I was around 10-12 years old I think. They put me out and I had an allergic reaction to the sodium pentathol and I friggin DIED!!! They had to revive me in the middle of my procedure. All that I remember was a hundred hands in my mouth while there were a hundred hands on me elsewhere!
Once I recovered and was OK to go home my mother kept giving my pain meds which I kept throwing up (this went on for hours - mom was a bit of a drinker - to say the least) until she finally called someone and they told her to make me drink some milkshake or something because the meds would not stay down on an empty stomach. I ended up being sick for about a week! Fortunately they don't use sodium pentathol regularly anymore. This was the 4th worst experience of my life. Sorry, but you asked.

Re: Wisdom
Mine was fun. I distinctly remember being on a rollercoaster the whole time and when I came to, I said "let's do it again!"

Re: Wisdom
Got mine yanked in bootcamp along with the majority of the 75 other guys i was bunked up with. the horror stories are far worse than the actual experience so far as you take the pain meds that are given to you.

Re: Wisdom
At 18 my dentis told me i needed to have them pulled because they where empacting. Didn't have them pulled tell they gave me trouble. First one at 28, heard a loud pop and the dentis said a foul word under his breth, it broek off, and he had to fish for the root.that one hurt. Next one at 36 hurt a little . last one at 45 the numbing shot was the bad part , the dentis hit the same nerve two time with his neadle, felt like being shocked by electricity. Last one very fast though. Still have one . Merfys law is if you wate tell it bothers you it will on a holliday weekend with the dentis on vacation.

Re: Wisdom
It didn't take to long to get them pulled. It took awhile for my lip to un-num and now my lower left hurts like a bugger. The rest are fine though. I finally just got done needing the gauze.

Re: Wisdom
Well I went water skiing for the first time ever less than 24 hours after I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled. Had a great time! Moral of the story, TAKE YOUR PAIN PILLS exactly like the doc says. My brother "He manned" it and didn't need those silly pills.4 days later he finally got out of bed. sheesh! Just take pills!

Re: Wisdom
I have a cavity in one and the dentist wants to take them all. I begged him to fix the cavity and he won't do it. I need to find another dentist to fill the cavity so I don't have to have them pulled. I know that's delaying the inevitable but the other three are perfect why pull them?
