Anyone install a in cab hood release?
I am thinking about installing a in cab hood release cable. Have you done this and how did you hook it up?

Re: Anyone install a in cab hood release?
Just curious why you would want that? You still have to unhook it from the safety hook. I'm weird in that I think it's cool to go to the front of the vehicle and do it that way. Then again....I'm guessing you might be thinking of a theft deterrent. In that case, it's a cool idea.

I didn't look at it closely, but this is from the Tech Tips section.

Re: Anyone install a in cab hood release?
My `71 has been in the family for decades. When my grandfather passed away my uncle moved in with my grandmother to assist. (She never drove). One morning they were going to head out when they found the hood slightly open and the air filter on the ground.
Turns out the carb was missing! A few days later the Chevy truck across the street that the folks had been tinkering with for months suddenly ran! Eventually my grandmother passed, my uncle got the truck. Eventually he passed now I have it. The truck now has a Carter AFB. While going through his stuff I found a Quadrajet that looks (by it's number) that it's a replacement carb configured for a 72. I'd use it if I had the choke for it. I want to get better than 10 MPG!

Re: Anyone install a in cab hood release?
I installed one using an $8.00 choke cable with a black button on the end from the parts store. You still have to pull the handle from the outside and then pull the cable on the inside to release it.I routed mine where the release is on the firewall below the steering column.Little story,I took my truck to sears to get BFG's put on all corners, they pulled the truck in the garage w/the dual 40 flows echoing throughout the building. They pulled it in the bay and within 15seconds every tire and oil changer was gathered around the truck.I was standing around the corner watching as 5 of them tried to open the hood.I walked up behind and asked if there was a reason for opening the hood? You could have heard a pin drop, their faces were blank and they scattered like coach-roaches when you turn on the light. In Cab hood release saves the day.

Re: Anyone install a in cab hood release?
I thought this too, but a quick yank and my hood pops past the hook every time, my grill makes me seriously ponder this....choke cable huh?

Re: Anyone install a in cab hood release?
Holy cow.....if that happened to me, things would get really ugly. That's just like opening the door and getting in. I'd have to look it up for sure but I'm thinking that would be a good time to hand someone an ass-whooping coupon and then tell them it's coupon Wednesday!!!!

Re: Anyone install a in cab hood release?
We added more of a latch deadbolt that is connected to a heavy duty throttle cable. It runs into the cab. Pushing it in slides the pin in front of the latch, Pulling it allows you to open the hood as you would normally.

^^^^ lol!!
My truck is usually never out of sight or at least parked with a bunch of other hot rods. I just can't get over that someone would have the balls to actually open the hood. |

Re: Anyone install a in cab hood release?
I have airplane wire around the hood frame and it hangs down to the bottom of the rad support where a nice round pad lock battens it down. Keeps punks and mechanics out
