Opinions about this 70 GMC please?
I am seriously considering it. It is a SWB, correct? One way I look at it it looks like a shorty, the other it looks like a LWB.
Looks like a good old truck ! I'm just considering it for a driver, 4.5 / 6" drop and 20" Coys. What do you think? thanks.

Re: Opinions about this 70 GMC please?
If the body is pretty straight, I'd pay $2,500-$3,200?? The aftermarket mirrors make me a little nervous. I like it! I'd prefer an automatic and 5-lug (71-72).

Re: Opinions about this 70 GMC please?
How difficult is the parchment stuff to find? Seat covers, etc. I haven't seen very many of them. The steering wheel looks pretty beat up, but .. overall me likey !
I was 95% sure it was SWB but just making sure. Thanks.

Re: Opinions about this 70 GMC please?
nice base for what you want to do, with little interior work it would be a cool looking old truck. I say no more than $3200

Re: Opinions about this 70 GMC please?
Were any of the 70's 5 lug ?? Humm. 6 lug is not a deal breaker for me but I agree. I would like to have the disc and 5 lug to start.

Looks like a heck of a clean start to a good driver in the pics. It's defiantly a shorty and love the look of the truck. I day buy it, slam it, and drive it.

Just bought it ! Going Sat to finalize the paperwork and pick it up. As long as it's not full of rust I'll drive it home but I am taking the cash. Here's a quick and rough p-chop

Re: Opinions about this 70 GMC please?
What wheel / tire size can you stuff under a fleetside? What could I get away with?
295/40/20 on a 20x10 5.5 BS for the rear? Is that 'the' size to get or could I get by with 305 ? 20x8.5 5.25 BS on the front? 255/40/20 seems to be perfect. 4.5 / 6" drop. Assuming the late rear end, but I'll find out.

Re: Opinions about this 70 GMC please?
'70 trucks will be 6-lug (4 wheel) drum brake trucks.
Could have the narrow or wider rearend. (70 was the transition year) I don't think that interior is Parchment. If it's like my '70 stepside it's call "gold" on the glovebox SPID. (a shade darker. Some call it sandelwood) If you re-do the interior,... I would just switch it to black or even better,... red. ('70 red was the bright red color,... not the maroon red like the '69 trucks had) Do a 4.5/6 drop with 8.5's and 10's.

Re: Opinions about this 70 GMC please?
Keith - does anyone offer (fairly sure they do) a full coversion kit to go 5 lug, discs, drop spindles, springs, axles and basically just do all of it at once? Stan? ECE? Thanks.

Re: Opinions about this 70 GMC please?
To me being a GMC sets it off as way cooler than your average Chevy. Is this a Sierra or Sierra Grande? It kinda looks like it might have the Sierra Grande bedside badge. That would really set it off as way cooler than a Chevy, since GMC was a year ahead of Chevy with these. I agree...go red on that interior. Parchment or black would go great. For that matter a color like olive or blue would be killer for setting apart. The gold vinyl and sandalwood pieces are about impossible to find. I like how it looks now better than that photoshop. This truck needs a C10 King treatment if you ask me...have fun with it. I'm jealous.

Re: Opinions about this 70 GMC please?
It may be wearing the hubcaps for a while. I like them too !
Once I get it home and build confidence in it mechanically, go through the brakes to make sure it's safe and nothing major wrong I'll start detailing it out some. I kno wwhat you mean about the C10 King treatment. I can see it setup like the Gumby truck. Slammed and hubcaps. I haven't actually seen the truck, I'm not sure about the Sierra Grande pkg. I'll check it out. It looks like it may have the early rear end housing (?) Not sure if it's leaf spring or TA / Coils. Pretty excited to get it.

Re: Opinions about this 70 GMC please?
I know it's tough to see, but can you guys tell if that's a tach in the dash?
I'll be giving $3k for this truck. Am I doing ok you think? I'm comfortable with that as long as it's not a pile of rust. The lady that has it says it's really a good sound truck. I have pretty much committed to buy it but I will walk away from it too if it's different than what she describes over the phone.

Re: Opinions about this 70 GMC please?
I talked to the lady about this truck a few times. The ad said big block and a/c, both of which were untrue. (I liked the idea of a big block and 3 speed, did they even make any of those?) She sent me some pictures and after evaluating them I told her that I might be interested in the $3000 range. It has a coil spring rear, too. I think I saw a rust hole in the bed floor near the tailgate. It is certainly a good candidate for a drop, new shoes and drive the heck out of it project. Good luck, I hope you make a good deal and get it.
