Top of dash color question

Seeing how I can't get any responses on my build thread.............................................................................................. ..

I just got my cab painted, now the top of the dash is hugger orange. I had it semi gloss black before. I almost hate to sand the new fresh paint to paint it back semi gloss black. Were these all semi gloss black when new or body color? I'm assuming body color could create a glare with sun light. Opinions please.

Re: Top of dash color question

My truck had a 503 light green body and the dash was a flat dark green that matched the door pannels

Re: Top of dash color question

If are talking about the area between the dash pad and windshield where the defrost vents are, then that area was originally the same color as the dashpad in a sort of flat color. Atleast in 69-72.

Mine too, but mine matched the dash pad and not the door panels.

Re: Top of dash color question

My medium green 71 had a brown dash pad and the area between the dash and dash pad was a matching brown.

Re: Top of dash color question

the dash pad is all you can see in this picture but the door pannel shows the colour change, this is rough and a work in progress a lot of work!!!

Re: Top of dash color question

For a black dashpad semi gloss black would look the best imo. I have never thought that area painted body color looked right.

Re: Top of dash color question

They make a semi gloss clear coat, available in spray cans. Not sure how hard it would be to get an even shine with it.

Re: Top of dash color question

I stoped by the shop where my truck is being panted today. They painted the inside of the cab today. They were about to start the clear coat's. We talked about the glare. My body man said they have cleared a lot of dashes. He told me to try it and if i didn't like it he will wet sand the gloss down. I have known him for year's. We trade work back and forth. So i trust him when he said that most people don't bring there stuff back to degloss.
