Some kind of tool holder spring?

I went junkyardin' today and saw this:



For scale:



There was a Phillips head bolt through the center of this little dimple just below the door strike (that I never had noticed before on my truck) that held it on:



I figured it was stock, because it has some of the yellow that the truck in the JY was.

Maybe they are common, but I had never seen one before.

I have seen them on just about every 69-72 truck I have come across.

67-68 trucks had those tools secured to the floor as opposed to stored in the cab corner

I think my green '68 is starting to be in the running for 'Most Plain Jane'. As you can see in the picture, that dimple has never been drilled out for the bolt. It never had a rear-view mirror installed, either.

I'm pretty sure it was a '68 I pulled it out of, but there was little evidence of this. Almost everything that would have IDed it as such was gone, except for the build sheet that was still under the seat, which I pulled out because, oddly enough, it is in pretty good shape. I didn't study it real close, but the born-on date was sometime in '68. And the motor has the oil filler tube in the front of the manifold, which don't mean much unless it is the original 327.

Anyway, at least I know now what it's for, and since '67s and '68s are all I've had it makes sense that I've never seen one.
