Re: 1960-66 napco trucks
perhaps not rare as probably most line co.(hydro-tel etc) would have had them and we wouldn't have seen them as much because they were mainly used off-road. Survivors would more then likely would have been slim; scrapped rather than coming on the market, as wouldn't have been that much demand then in resale. even then they would have been used off road so their visibility would have been low

Re: 1960-66 napco trucks
I saved this off of another site. It is rumored to have a 478 cid V6 in it.

Re: 1960-66 napco trucks
Welcome to the site! I really like you C50 Napco conversion. You don't see too many Napco pickups in the 60-66 era since the factory was offering them by now. Most will be 30 series and larger since a conversion was the only way to go. I think the only pictures I have saved have been shown. This one's a conversion, but I can't say for certain if it's Napco.

Re: 1960-66 napco trucks
Its hard to believe most NAPCO's had straight 6's and the GMC converted NAPCO had the V6. Why did they put 6's in such a big truck with 4wd? Why not a V8?

Re: 1960-66 napco trucks
those i6 had more bottom end with the gearing that was avail. the v6 was also a low revving eng. the v8 would tend to rev faster which you wouldn't require or want if you were in the gumbo; just slow steady rpm with the lower end torque

it, Imagine a stroker v8 behind that. It would be fun to hear it go though all 4 gears with dull exaust.

Re: 1960-66 napco trucks
That makes sense but didnt that put more wear on it being a 6? But i guess them low low gears didnt work it to hard. I was flipping through an old wheels of time magazine and saw a restored 64 C80 with the factory 409 with the 5+2 combo. It was a single axle tractor
