70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
I have a co worker who always talks about wanting a 68 to 72 chevy truck. I was on my way home from work one day and happened to see one for sale. I told him about it and I went to look at it with him. We talked about how it would be a good fixer upper. Some how he talked me into buying it. I now have it in my garage in hundreds of pieces. I have strippped the frame and blasted everything. I had a 454 given to me and its going to the machine shop monday. I wll post more pics later.

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
I bought the truck 2 weeks before christmas , so things hve been moving along pretty fast. Here is a few more pics. I am also building a 16 foot wingspan B-17 that is remote control. It takes alot of time also. I do need to finish it before the truck(i'm getting paid for that one). I do need the truck finished by august.

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
The reafr frame pic is where I had to cut off the frame rails and replace them. I made new rear overload spring brackets, the old one were completly rusted out.

I'm in on this one, looks like a pretty good one, putting factory A/C in or was the fire wall bad shape?

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
I am planning on an after market a/c conversion, unless you have a different idea for the ac. The firewall was pretty rusty where it meets the floor pan, so I figured it would be better to just replace it. I have all the cab parts ordered and am waiting for delivery.

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
things have been goingkinda slow, I have the new floor and firewall installed. Now working on the rockers and rear pillars. I now am starting to realize that I will never get done with this by augest. I have found a local 72 thats pretty rough but runs. I was thinking about buying it and driving it til I get the 70 done. The 72 has two good crome bumpers, a bunch seat, factory air,and factry power disc brakes that I will be able to use on the 70. My real question is the 72 will need 2 or 3 hundred dollars of work to make dependable and what would be a good price for a rough runnning truck? They are asking 1095.00 for it.

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
Well its been awhile. Ive been ral busy on my 0ther project, but have been putting some time in on the 70. I did buy a rust free bed and two dors from CA. It happened to be an old school mate who lived in CA and buys and sells old cars and trucks. He had moved back to him home town and I found out he had the stuff. The best thing is he is going to pick up and deliver. The down side is not til the end of july. I will be buying a secong truck(72) to get me through the winter so I will have plenty of time. Looks like I will be selling the 350 to help fund the big block. Been working on the rockers and pillars. Can anyone tell me the best way to attach the rockers to the floor where they meet.

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
ive been looking for this post. hows the quality on the whole floor section and who did you get it from? mine arnt bad enough to really merit a whole floor board, but i prefer whole sections rather than patches on floors. ive bought after-market metal before for old cars that was just horrible quality.

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
I am replacing both floor and firewall. where the firewall and floor meet ther is a little different shape around the trans well. nothing a little prying and hammering didn't fix. The floor is from lmc and the firewall is cpi I think. overall I am very happy I went with the complete floor and firewall.

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
Shipping is expensive. They do offer free shipping over a grand so I put together a 1500.00 order to get the free shipping. I have done that twice on large orders.

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
Well things have been going slow. I was waiting for doors from a friend who lived in ca. Three months waiting and I said no more I ordered new doors and bumpers and several other things. I had to make a 1500 dollar order to get free shipping. I trailered my frame to get clear coated friday night. We ended up reshooting the black and a polyurathane clear and baked it for 1 hour. Here is a few pics after I unloaded it. If all goes well I should beable to get the cab to the blaster in a couple of weeks.

Re: 70 1/2 ton 2wd- what was I thinking
I picked up my seat from the upulstery shop. I traded a dual exhaust job for it. Its nice to have friends that like to trade work. I was not looking for original and left it up to him. I am very happy.
