My daughters first ride!
well we talked it over, and over, and over and told her we found her a truck. (she doesn't like the new rice burner cars, it was a truck or jeep for her.) she is 14 so this gives me 2 yrs. to get it "pretty" for her.
just picked up a running (straight 6) very clean partially redone '66 chevy LWB for her for $550.00. she loves the LWB not a fan of the SWB...odd i know but she says they look to square. we finally took her by and showed her this Saturday afternoon and she was grinning from ear to ear. "i love it! this is so awesome" she says! so know the work begins, i will be putting my '59 SWB on the back burner for a little bit longer so we can get this diamond polished up. it's a 3/4 ton 6cyl. with a stick. plans are to change over to 1/2 ton, cut a coil out for an easy (an cheap) drop. change from stick to auto for her, and do a little body work here and there and she wants the teal/blue, old swimming pool color and white. with steel wheels painted to match and white walls. so here we go! my kid is a one in a million! 14 yr. old boys might think this is cool........but a 14yr. old girl???? who'da thunk? guess all those yrs. of showing her "cool cars" and going to rod shows paid off! guess you can tell i'm a proud poppa!

Lets get going with the pics! Of the truck that is. I have a 66 long bed waiting patiently in a hanger waiting for my attention. I visited it over the weekend.

Nothing better than a father-daughter project. AND she's got good taste. My first car was a pinto. Blah.

Re: My daughters first ride!
I started a project like this with my step-daughter, and we were having a great time. Unfortunately things went South with her mother, so now the truck just sits, but the good memories remain! My kids (son and daughter) are both into old trucks too, so the day will be coming soon to work on their rigs with them!
Post up some pictures when you get a chance. Everyone on here LOVES pictures! Congrats on an awesome daughter! |

Re: My daughters first ride!
Now begins the process of figuring out how to keep 14 year old boys out of her truck... I'd suggest installing just one bucket seat and in the place of the other chain up an ill tempered dog...
Awesome project!

Re: My daughters first ride!
the boy factor isn't a problem for now. she had her first one early this summer and he was a nasty little D!**. so that put a bad feeling in her gut for now! and our 2 dogs will look sweet settin in the seat! (not to give them a worse name than what they have but.....we'll just say that 90% of the normal population doesn't like or understand this breed of dog!) and there is always the chance that i'll be settin in that side as well.

Re: My daughters first ride!
How cool is that? Make sure you teach her EVERYTHING and don't do it all for her She will be able to take care of herself if the need arises in the future and not have to depend on a shop etc.. Congrats and get ready to have an amazing daddy daughter bonding time.

Re: My daughters first ride!
well we talked about it, and i made her shake on it. if she wants to drive it in 2 yrs. when she gets her license, then she WILL help. i told her there won't be any of this "i'm out busting knuckles, while she's KEEPING UP WITH THE KARDASHIANS"!!!!! and she agreed to it. i said "you WILL learn how to change fluids and do tune-up stuff". (and hopefully alot more). I showed her a 98 BMW car that we could probably swing (from a private seller thats a friend) and she kinda shrugged it off and said "no thanks, i'd rather have the truck".
pics. will start as soon as we get it home. (and i figure out how to post them)

Re: My daughters first ride!
I told my step-daughter when she decided she wanted an old truck that she had three choices about fixing it up. She could pay some one A LOT of money to fix it up for her, she could pay me less money to do it for her, or I would help her, and teach her how to do it for free. Not much of a choice there, but she stood true to her word. We shook on it too. LOL If I was out working on it, she was too. She even had the flu one weekend and just came out and sat by the wood stove sanding on some small parts, to make sure she was out there.
