new old wheels...score!

I found these on my local craigslist and could not refuse...4 brand new, never mounted. I am not sure how old they are so if anyone has any idea please let me know. they are one piece aluminium with "western" logo center caps. could not find out much with google. thanks Greg

p.s. would they look good with wide whites?

Love them for the 60's-70's look - as I have with as cast Torque Thrusts but no, I do NOT see wide whites with them.

Re: new old wheels...score!

No wide whites on these they are at least a decade later and race oriented. Wide low profile 70 series black wall tires would be period correct for the late 60's through the early 70's with raised white letter in the 70's.

Cool score !

Re: new old wheels...score!

If I am not mistaken there used to be an auto parts company called Western Auto Parts and they used to make knockoff wheels like keystone used to. I believed Advance auto parts bought out all the Western Auto's. At least on the east coast and mid west.

Re: new old wheels...score!

Why don't you take a pic of the wheel sitting up and see if you or someone can photoshop or use MS paint to add the whitewall. I think it would look cool with a whitewall.

Re: new old wheels...score!

Maybe if your trying to pull off the 60's custom look. Personally i'd play it safe and nail the 70's trailer trash look with BFGs.
Then get yourself some skinny steel wheels with whitewalls and run both. I bet you have more than one pair of shoes. Your truck needs more than one too.

Re: new old wheels...score!

They were usually sold as a "low cost" wheel at tire stores in this area. You couldn't swing a set of Americans or Cragers they could usually get you into a set of Westerns.

Not part of Western Auto but may have been sold at some that did tire and wheel business in the 60's and 70's. Those were franchise stores that did stock auto parts but also sold tv's, bicycles and small hardware items. My stepfather worked in the local on for several years.

I'm not really liking the wide whites with them though as they either need black walls, redlines or (cringe) white letters.

Some redlines would look sweet on them

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

The instant I saw your photo I thought redlines, and I see others have the same thought. I think redlines would look great with those wheels.

I like the white walls, but the red lines will be sick too.

They will look good on that truck no matter what tire you put on them as long a tires don't have white letters.
