Anyone ever had this feeling? Im very close to being finished and as im finishing things, im getting other ideas to change other things.

Re: 95% done with my truck, but want to do over?

Yep, I just completed an entire suspension rebuild last year, front and back. Now I'm gearing up to tear apart the front suspension again to make some serious changes. Don't get me wrong... the truck runs out nice, I just have some things I want different.

I know the feeling. Pretty much done with mine other than interior, and now thanks to nate I'm getting ready to tear it all apart again. It was in pieces for the last 4 years, now its coming apart again

Good one! I've never been past 90%... that's usually when I start wearing them out.

Ya, my first car show bummed me out. Everyone liked the truck. Especially during the cruise. What got me was this rusty piece of crap sitting next to me.. It was the ugliest thing in the world and he literally put it together in a few minutes.. I dont even know what it was. An oil barrel for a seat. That kinda thing... Parked right next to me and people loved that thing like it was the second coming of jesus. Just put a bad taste in my mouth. ahaha

Re: 95% done with my truck, but want to do over?

Glad im not the only one!! Mines been down for almost 7 years. What started as a simple air ride job has turned into almost a full resto. Everytime i think im gonna start putting it back together i find some rust and decide to tear into it a little further to fix it. Its a never ending battle. HAHA but it sure is fun!! I think what the problem is atleast with me is the longer its down the more my taste change and i wanna go back and improve on my original ideas.

Re: 95% done with my truck, but want to do over?

If you can afford it (more in terms of space than cash) it helps to have more than one project, so when you get sick of looking at one you can work on the other. I find that keeps the work varied as well.

I'm in the middle of teardown on my frame-off on my '70 GMC, which is pretty grimy and mundane work. So every now and then I'll do some dinky project on a car, where the end is actually in sight.

It also helps to have a goal. In my case I'm aiming for show stock, so I'll know when I'm done. If you don't know what you want, when will you know when you've got it?

Re: 95% done with my truck, but want to do over?

I agree with davepl on having a clear goal and plan for where you want to end up and in having another, different project if you can. I see quite a few partially finished projects for sale on the board. People run out of momentum, motivation and/or money. It is difficult to recoup much of what you have in it if it is in pieces as it is difficult for a prospective buyer to transport or have transported. Everyone makes additions and changes once they have "completed" their truck, but it is hard not to get burned out if you don't get it back together so that you can drive and enjoy it.

Re: 95% done with my truck, but want to do over?

My truck was built as a driver. I wanted a respectible looking truck, low on bling. I have driven it just over 600 miles, and the itch to bling it out is overwhelming. The body work that I did is driving me crazy! Aparently good enough for a driver, is no way good enough. The little ripples and waves in the paint are going to cause ulcers, panic attacks, grey hair, and a host of other issues. Then there is the sudden desire for four link, fox coilover suspension, fabbed axles, ect. It's a disease that there is no cure for!

I have built several vehicles, and as someone else said, " they are done when sold".

Re: 95% done with my truck, but want to do over?

Del I think your truck looks great. Im pretty sure you built it to your tastes, and you and the family had a bunch of fun making the dream come true.

Crappy, ratty vehicles are still an ongoing fad. You cant compete with those hulks with the viewing public, but seriously would you really want to drive something like that?

Real car and truck people are the ones that appreciate what you did. Being judged by your peers is what counts in my book.

Re: 95% done with my truck, but want to do over?

Yes I have suffered this curse before. Thats why I decided to restore my c10 to the most originally correct state that I can. My freinds are all pissed that I decided to paint the wood in the bed as it was originally. I tell them they dont understand. If I change the wood, than Ill change the wheels, than the height, than the motor and so on and so on. By keeping it original. Once Im done all I need to change is oil and filters! I wiont be tempted to modify anything.
