Delmo's Bench Seat Beauty
Stoppled by Delmo's shop today and spotted this little time capsule looks like a mid 60's Bench Seat Redone to a 58 Impala design and then covered like Grandmas Sofa, this thing caught my eye from across the shop, and that's hard to do because this place is like the Peterson Museum after hours

Funny you say that, my grandma use to roll like that. Can't wait to see that place in person.

Re: Delmo's Bench Seat Beauty
Surviving in pristine condition certainly makes it special today. It doesn’t even look like it’s been sat on. Normal wear usually stretched out the puffs making the cover baggy.
As a kid having to ride on those things I thought they were miserable. They were hot and sticky in the summer and cold in winter. To solve the sticky problem my dad discovered a new miracle product called Silicone Spray. After spraying it all over the seat nobody got stuck anymore. Once the seat belt was unbuckled care was needed to keep from sliding right off the seat and out the door!

The story goes that the seat was out of a 62 and recovered in 68 to look like a 58 Impala. The plastic was installed with hog rings at the same time that it was done. So technically the upholstery has never been sat on and I'm not going to be the one to take off the plastic now. The seat is in perfect condition and actually the plastic is in really good shape too. I got it at a swap meet and couldn't resist. LOL, I have issues. |

That is absolutely gorgeous! I'm a huge fan of the light piping on darker vinyls. That man has amazing taste.

Re: Delmo's Bench Seat Beauty
Nice! I remember those plastic covers from "back in the day". Dad had them in his '61 Impala, along with the metal blinds in the back window.

Re: Delmo's Bench Seat Beauty
I remember the plastic too... My mom had em on the couch in the house, every night I had to get peeled off of it just to go to bed.
Cool seat Delmo! I say SIT ON IT! Btw, met Brandon at Pac Coast PC last week - real nice guy, and he even delivers to China Lake!! He's doing a pile of wheels for me. Said he'd done some of your pc'ing in the past. Anyhoo, big plug for them, they seem like a great little company. I gotta head down to burbank someday and say hey. |

Re: Delmo's Bench Seat Beauty
Retro look, but I wouldn't want to ride on it. I distinctly remember how hot they go in the Texas sun. I legs got fried like a strip of lean bacon several times on those style of seat covers.

Re: Delmo's Bench Seat Beauty
1958 was the first year for the Impala. All of them were two doors so the front seat was a split seat to allow access to the back seat. The back seat had a cool radio speaker built into the center section that was just the cat's ass. I owned one back in the day and it was just one of the many cars I had that I wish I had never sold.
