converting my 70 C10 to power steering

I recently tried converting my 70 C10 250ci to power steering, I bought all the parts from a very reliable local bone yard. The parts are not from the same year vehicles, he went by his book which said certain parts would fit and work. The pump and brackets are from a 72 Nova 250ci, pulleys etc. The box is from a early eighties chevy truck. Everything bolted right in, the only thing I any issue with was the hoses (old style pump new style box, fittings) but I had a custom line made. My problem is it still don't work, it took over a quart of fluid. I put the truck up with no pressure on the wheels and turned it from side to side several times and took it for a ride, no power steering. Any help or suggestions. The bone yard is closed till Monday at which time I'm sure the owner will help me. Does it sound like a weak pump or not enough volume??:

Re: converting my 70 C10 to power steering

is there any change in the steering when you start the truck? i know it took me a while to get all the air out of the system did the fluid drop at all after you drove it? was the box/pump left open while it was in the yard? it could have some rust built up inside but hopefully theres just some air left in there

also just a FYI on the newer style pumps (with the metric o-ring style fitting on the back like yours) you can unscrew the whole fitting out of the pump and swap in a older style fitting

Re: converting my 70 C10 to power steering

Thanks for replying, there is no change in the steering when I start the truck. I'm pretty sure there is no air left in the system, I brought it to a mechanic friend of mine and we cracked the line at the box while he tried steering it and it just dribbled out, the pump doesn't gurgle and the line doesn't pulsate when you steer it, were pretty sure the pump is weak. As far as the fittings go, the old style is at the pump and the o-ring is at the box. the pump side had the female end at the hose too so I'm not sure I could put a female O-ring fitting at the pump, again thanks for replying.
