Need more info. What model/year. They usally go under the rear unless you have a stepside. someone may have removed the hardware to put in a gas tank.

There should be a place under the bed. Like ChevyKid said, someone may have removed the bracket to put in a gas tank. (even if they never put one in)

i installed min into the bed... its actually locked down. You couldn't do that unless someone messed up your bed with diamond plating tho.

Some came with the spare mounted in the bed. would have a bracket that mounted to the floor, and side of top railing. Had a slot for a carriarage head bolt that went thru a stud hole in the wheel to tighten the wheel to the bracket. Wheel stood upright .

I got mine from the salvage yard for $20. Attaches to the frame under the rear of the bed. The one I got was from an '84 chev pu.

I know on my old long bed had a metal braket that bolted inside the bed and it would hold my spare tire. My Blazer has an outside mount as you can see in the picture.

Well, you can find a bracket from any fleetside or stepside Chevy/GMC up until 87. It bolts on with a long bolt that allows it to swing down from the frame above and behing the left rear shock. and then the bracket goes across at an angle at the end of the right side frame. The bracket has a figure 8 opening were the threaded lock thingy holds the bracket with tire up towards the frame. Confusing..sorry. But if it aint got a gas tank back there under the bed, just grab one from a yard, I have seen a couple, and actually found a 69 with an original one, I grabbed the first one I saw from an 82...damn if I would have kept walking, not that it matters they both work the same. Even if it is a little twisted, a vice and some brute force can get it sraight real easy. they are pretty cheap, well I only payed $8 for mine. Some places might rip you off big time.

i appreciate the response, i looked at trucks in the salvage yard for a tire carrier and never saw any of the hardware, thats why i wasnt sure how or if they made one. i see now they must be in high demand.
thanks

man...I knew I forgot someting....I forgot to paint mine!!!Damn.....well it ain't coming off anytime soon.
Hey Dave, what is up with that bumper bracket thingy,is that a trailer hitch or a bumper???? The only problem I had with mine was that the right side bolt was too short for my spare which was semi full size~31x11.5. So I found some threaded rods that my dad had laying around that coincedentaly were the same thread size as the original and I just chopped it a bit longer, bent the end to like a right angle and ran a square peice of steel with a nut and washer after it. And I think I ran another nut after I set it in the hole in the frame....and viola!!! Ran it through the hole on the bracket and tightened it, then just put a nut under it for safety.

i have donw a few bed liners for friends on the side... 150 bucks a piece and i make 50 bucks a bed. it came out nice. make sure that it if you get the dupont stuff you thin is with about 1/2 a pint of thinner. Check the spray after you add 1/2 and see if you like it... the more you add the smother and tougher the texture. HEY your in SAN ANTONIO!?!?! damn i thought i was the only one around with one of these that made it to this board. Tell me when you want it ill get my sprayer together and you can borrow it for a day or two. send me a pm if you want to borrow it. |

Hey, what part of town are you from...right now I'm in San Marcos for school and sumer work, but I'm originally from San Antonio on the southside. If you haven't read around, my engines dead....mechanic who overhauled it was a drunk...enough said. Only lasted three months with regular driving and weekend driving in and out of San Antonio/San Marcos. I don't wanna mess with fixing it though. gonna look for a rebuilt 350. Any word about City Motor Supply off of San Pedro??? Know any freinds that went that route for a rebuilt motor. I haven't done much searching but I think I'm gonna go with them when my dads get back from mexico. Me you and Dave should get together one weekend....talk trucks...grab a bite to eat. Or if any of you ever stop by the outlet malls in San Marcos, I work at the Candle Warehouse in the Tanger Mall I would love to get my bed finished finally, I used a crappy brush to brush it on and it looks pretty crappy, but it can be cleaned up and shot. I did my tailgate with that rattle can stuff and it came out ok. maybe we can find some time and you can help me out with it. Let me try to get my truck running before that.
