Re: POST your old school car stereo 1980-1995

I expected to see all shaft type stereos in an old school thread. In my mind anything that doesn't fit in a truck set up for post type radio is modern. Any CD player is modern and will fit in later dashes newer than these trucks. There may be newer technology, but post-type is old school. Anything newer is outdated modern. That only takes moths sometimes these days.
I have an Alpine am/fm/cassette and 100w amp from my '84 I took out when I sold it in '92. I even have a matching Alpine car phone. When the phone rang it paused the cassette or turned the radio down automatically. I'd like to see about fitting digital guts into it so I can still use it. It also had a hands-free speaker/mic to clip over the door.
I also save all the am/fm/cassettes I find to use with post type dashes. I have a cassette deck and record on quality tapes. I have tapes I recorded in the '70s that still sound good.
I also have an Alpine am/fm/cd from around 2000 saved out of the '95 truck I had I figure to use some day. But,I don't consider that old school.

post pics.......old school to me is my high school years 87-90 and then when stereo in my opinion was in full swing....91-95. if had a couple shaft tape decks. to me mid school and new school is when walmart and every other department store started selling cd players because tape decks were out and everyone had a cd player now. also, cd players were 100-150 bucks and thieves could buy their own. my first cd player was a kenwood 95r. back when they were $500, but every bump made it skip and people would say...ok you have a 81 datsun pickup with a $500 dollar cd player in it??!!!!

I remember when JC Whitney carried 50 different versions of digital audio spectrum analyzers starting around $25. I was going to put one in my daughter's truck but nobody makes them anymore.

Re: POST your old school car stereo 1980-1995

My dad had an old Pioneer Super TunerIII from around 1980 that he had in his Trans Am in a home made box in his garage for years, as a garage radio. I told him I wanted it, but he chunked it when they moved to town. Same with the old Jensen Triaxial 6x9's too. He was pretty young when I was born, and I remember the cool stereo stuff he had when I was growing up. I did manage to score his record collection (pretty cool since I still like a lot of 70's and 80's stuff) and some of his old Technics home stereo stuff. Now I just need a place to set it up.
