Re: How rare is this 63 crew cab shortbed?

I think the trim around the drivers side rear door window has got to be ultra rare. It isnt like a '60-'63 door and it isn't like a '64-'66 door.

Greg
The front door trim is the same as any 60-63 trim, its the rear trim that is rare

if you look closely that is a cut down 60-63 door, 60-61's most all the coach companies used a cut down front door for the rear..some stageways started the straight post rear door in 61 I think.

the wheelbase should be the common 127 lwb, with the cab cut into the front of a long box.

so is it a napco as well?

if so the 5k is probably pretty reasonable.. sounds like the guy might have done some research, otherwise he would probably want less than 1500 for it, my experience has been that with finding crews....

10 built.... no one has production #'s for crew cabs that I am aware of.. it is all conjecture until someone comes up with printed proof.
I would expect production to be low, but not that low.

Re: How rare is this 63 crew cab shortbed?

cool! wow, that is a SHORT bed - is truck on a normal LWB 1 (or perhaps 3/4) ton frame? i.e. longer cab+shorter shortbed (+8 lugs)? Would be awesome to save the door art somehow, or at least take close pics to reproduce it maybe... Thanks for posting.

LOL.. ya no plow....really its not a bad price..but to do it right for restoring you'd have 30 grand into it (or 40) depending how much u wanted to trick it out....its sad he was thinking selling it to some dude that wanted to make a backwoods 4x4 out of it....that made me sick....

Yeah - I can't talk, I've been looking at a Cheyenne Super for about 3 months right now that I can't afford and it doesn't even run... If YOU like it - GO FOR IT, we'll all live vicariously through you. Sometimes ya gotta pay a little extra for the rare stuff, and in the long run, it's worth it. When you're done, you have a very unique truck.

I would buy it. As you said, most of the trucks in your area have long ago been destroyed.

Re: How rare is this 63 crew cab shortbed?

well it is definitely repairable...The price is a bit of a punch in the gut but there aren't many crew cabs around anymore, so that does bump the price up some. You can see if he'd come down a bit on it some, but he'll probably pull the "emotional attachment" line on you. It never hurts to try to haggle. If it is completely complete inside, and more or less unmolested, and the engine runs, then it's not such a bad deal. If you need a new engine, trans, and transfer case for it that will start adding up the $$$ quickly.

Re: How rare is this 63 crew cab shortbed?

I love it! And I love that it is a 4X4! I say restore it to completely original. You will never see one like it anywhere and in original state with those options and it's rarity I would think it could pull in premium cash if you ever wanted to. It's the Facebook stock of 60-66 trucks.

Toby.....

GET IT!!!!

If you have the means to seriously consider buyin' this thing....then I can say for sure....You won't be sorry.
I've seen a few....quite a few, but I can't remember seeing one with the Custom Cab option on it.....
Dang, that could be a very fine truck.

Man....sure...it needs work, but IMO, it's damn near priceless.

We'd love to see more pic's....(while you're doing your frame off)...

Re: How rare is this 63 crew cab shortbed?

Buy it before the owner changes his mind and finds out what it is really worth. $5000 is nothing compared to what I have seen for crew cabs that are in pretty bad shape and not even a 4x4. Would like to see more pictures of this.

x2 What Rockdriller said. Do NOT let that one get away or it will haunt you for the rest of your days. Beg and/or borrow to get what it takes to get that one.

So might be the same door trim front and rear then. I have a set for my 63 chevy, just haven't gotten around to installing them yet.

Re: How rare is this 63 crew cab shortbed?

That's a rare truck alright. And,it's even more rare being a custom with trim modified for it and all. Add to that it's a 3/4t 4wd!!. I dig the Palamino Tan. That truck is screaming to be restored back to original. I see that as a potential top end truck, meaning top end collector bucks. Knowing what I do about Alaska prices that's cheap! I say it's a sensible price in the lower 48. Gotta look at what it is. And,if you don't know what you're looking at,don't worry, cuz people who know their stuff sure do.
