repaired dash
i showed some pic in another treat but its done now so here its is.
1-clean the cracks 2-sand and apply fiberglass 3-sand and apply body filler 4-sand and prime 5-sand and shoot dupli color ratle can bed liner 6-paint with flat black interior trim to finish it up |

Very nice. What type of sander did you use on the body filler? D/A, inline, 8"? Or good ole elbow grease???

we sanded it first with ... a.. dont know what its called but its a steel band with holes that takes of big chunk of body filler , the things wifes use to grind cheese to make a lasagna, then we sanded it 180grit with an electric body-not wood sander, then block sanded 180 grit. finish by hand with 400 grit paper. i only removed the vinyl where the crack were the make a concave cavity. |

i used , fiber glass kit, comes in a box with the fiber and a resin square can, body filler is the X one. by far the best body filler we ever worked with. then normal primer but sprayed with a gun, then its dupli color ratle can black bed liner kit and on top of that its 2 coats of flat black interior plastic trim paint.
also sprayed by gun. now for the primer and trim paint they were left overs from previous job and i dont to the mix and shoot stuff so i dont know what brand they were but you mostly get the idea. at first we werent suposse to put trim paint but the bed liner spited big chunks and almost made a mess.once dry when you moved your hand on it ,it left some black film on your figers and even dry they were some spot where it kinda react to the body filler making it look like there was wet and dry spot. |

I know fiber glass is flexible, but what about that X Grip body filler? I just redid my dash using the Great Stuff foam from Wally World. But it still needs a small amount of something to smooth it all out so I can prime and paint. It was a hell of a lot cheaper than fiberglass (maybe not as durable) and filled the gaps just fine. I know these dashes have to flex slightly and will certainly flex upon install. I was surprised at how sand-able the foam was after it dried over night. Your dash looks great though and I hope mine turns out that good.
