Very impressed with Monroe Sensa-trac shocks!

Wish I did this much sooner. Dropped my 87 4/6 about 2 years ago. I used the supplied Doetsch-Tech Nitro Slammer shocks that came with the kit. Front is dropped via 2'' Belltech coils and 2.5'' Spindles. Rear is a flip kit, western chassis shackles at 1'' hole, and c-notched.

I was sick of all the jarring, bouncing and harshness. First I tried lowering the pressure in the BFG Radial T/A's to 30 which helped. Then I tried rear shock extenders to get a better shock angle, which really didn't help at all.

I read on here that one of the softest riding shocks you can buy are the sensa-tracs. I was a bit hesitant on if the oem length shocks would work but I figured what the heck.

The fronts fit perfectly with the 2'' coils. In fact, the Sensa-Trac front shocks are an inch shorter than the Doetch-Techs.... go figure!

The rears are certainly longer than the doetsch-tech. It is a must to run shock extenders on the rear using the oem length shock. I haul basically no loads in my truck so they should work fine for me. If you plan on using your truck to haul stuff, you may want to research a shorter length.

The difference is night and day. Those Doetsch-Tech's are going straight to the garbage.

I recommend these shocks if you are looking for a softer ride. Truck still corners excellent and it's not like too soft where it's bottoming out and blowing thru travel.... it's perfect

I used front shocks for a 73-87 4x4 on the rear of my old 74 that had a flip kit (8-leaf spring pack), drop shackles, & shock extenders. It required a little tweaking but they worked well.

Can you set the record straight for me? It is my understanding that the sensitrac valving is very close to the 'inertia valve' type like the bilstein shocks. I have always thoght that the sensitrac was a great shock for the money, and on the dyno it reacts the same as other big $$ inertia valve shocks. I have never cut one up to see ?????

Yes. The sensi trac is geared to be a direct competitor to the other inertia type shocks on the market. It uses a small weight assembly to effect the valving based on the amount of "shock" delivered to the suspension.

Nice to know its still made in the U.S.A.
I have a 3/5 drop in my 67 suburban, I have the white KYB`s in there now, very hard ride. I`m gonna call my parts house tomorrow and order some up.

I always felt those 'white' KYB Gas-a-Just shocks were too firm so I never liked them as well. The GR-2's seemed much better.

How about some part numbers on these shocks? My 69 c10 has a 4/6 drop which shocks would I use. Also I'm thinking about raising the truck to 3/5 would I still be able to use the same 4/6 shocks for the 3/5. Oh yeah the truck is a l/b thanks.

Got my Dostech shocks with my kit from CPP, they are horrible. I took one back because it got stuck in the lowered position when I too it off and did not extend. So yes a part number would help.
Just lowered my 69 yesterday from a 3/4 to a 3/5, now thinking about
a 5/6 drop, my question why are you raising your truck up? Just curious.

I just make the parts, I don't know part numbers. But you should be able to use the same shock.

Part numbers would be good. I will be running stock suspension geometry, only plan to lower the front end 2-1/2 with drop spindles.

Just about done with my ls conversion going to let my daughter 16 drive a little after she learns to respect the truck. This truck is a clean dd and currently rolling on 17s thinking of going to truck rally's cause longer lasting tread wear and cost of 15s. Those doestech shocks really suck I got them when I purchased the shock relocator kit from cpp thought I really had something till I went out for test drive thought I was riding in a box of rocks. I originally had a set of Monroe's on the truck and rode great but didnt think they were the right shocks cause they were laying around and I just threw them on the truck what a mistake getting rid of them.

glad I could help. I just know not every truck is the same. Yours may be lowered the same but could be a little off. It's always worth the little extra time to measure and order what you know will fit.

I am certainly no expert, but the attachment from stealthy has details as to how to determine which Monroe units you need, if you have stock geometry, and if the shocks on the truck are correct to begin with. I would bet that robnolimit would be able to help out if your geometry has been altered.

I just had a look, and the 37049's are the correct shocks for my 66, but the site says that the 37040's will not fit my 66. Have a look at the PDF that stealthy put up on April 30 in this thread. If you have lowering springs or otherwise altered suspension, I bet a call to Monroe with all of your static dimensions would do the trick.
