Minneapolis to Seattle- Operation Superhorn Retrieval!!

Friend and I are taking a road trip in just a couple weeks!! The trip is to retrieve the non running Cheyenne 30 Superhorn he bought and haul home some other really clean sheetmetal. We'll be on the road Mid to late April.

We will be looking for good salvage yards and other adventures along the way. I hope to report back with some good pics and details on our progress. The trip is focused solely around 67-72's

Would anyone recommend any sights or particular routes along the way? We will probably be going west on I94 through ND but could take I90 through SD as well. Montana is a definite, we've already mapped out 4 salvage yards there along the way.

Also We'll have space for some stuff to haul, especially on way out.We will most likely go through ND, MT, and chimney of ID

The Badlands National Park right off 90 in South Dakota, Mount Rushmore near Rapid City SD, Sturgis and Spearfish past Rapid City as you head north west on 90. Deadwood, where Wild Bill met his demise if you take a diversion out of Rapid City and head northwest on 385 (an absolutely gorgeous twisty ride) and 85 and meet up with 90 off 85. South Dakota is a beautiful state.

I did - but I am all "ears" now!

Nothing like a fresh walleye, filleted, battered in cracker crumbs, and pan fried. We got 'em around here too.

Thanks for the input all, looks like theres more to do than we'll have time for! We've got 7 days to get out there and back and see the country along the way.

There is a 4 post car hoist that I would like to buy in Dubuque, Iowa I would like to buy if I can get someone to haul it here to me in Olympia... It is dissasembled and the ramps are 18' long. I think it could all be stacked together and shoved under the truck. WES

Longhorns around here seem to be scarce enough, let alone a Cheyenne Super one. Good luck with the trip. If you go get that hoist and drive across I-80, give me a heads up if you would like to go grab lunch or something.

It'd be cool to check out your projects if I do but it will be tough to have time to make it down there. Oh wait, I got an idea, fire up that nice orange longhorn and haul it up to MN and then everybody wins

The largest swapmeet west of the Mississippi will be going on in Portland, OR. during April 12th-15th, its just a short three hour drive south of Seattle. You will need a couple of days to make a real go at it and even then you will probably not see everything. Mel

Re: Minneapolis to Seattle- Operation Superhorn Retrieval!!

I've been looking for some good places to look around here. Can't find too many... I've done business with Fred at Gille Auto in Valley City, ND. You will go right through there if your on I-94. He claims to have some of those pickups. I've been there to pick something up, but I was never back in the yard. I'm very curious to see what he has!

Hope this helps!

NICE LONGHORN!.

I wish I could point you to something in this area but there is not much right off I 94 in central ND.

Here is a local classified web site that gets heavy local usage that might have some 67-72 trucks or parts advertised. www.bismanonline.com. We don't have craigslist here to speak of.

I've been watching this other site below for a few years and his site does not change much. He's been advertising the same 72 4X4 for years. He has his stuff displayed off the Hebron ND exit. It's a fun place to stop and stretch your legs. I think its the Western Hebron Exit. There are two for the big town of Hebron!

Johnson's auto wrecking is a fun yard to check out just south/west of Mandan ND. I'm not sure what he has on hand right now for 67-72's. Most of the one's I have seen there are pretty picked over and ready to be crushed. There is also a yard just north of Steele ND. I have never been to it but it might be interesting.

Don't plan on getting any motels at the last minute in Bismarck or points West until you get into perhaps central Montana. The Bakken oil boom is on big time here and motels are nearly impossible to get at the last minute.

I've heard the guy in Minot mentioned by another poster is pretty high priced. Minot would be about 110 miles out of your way from I-94 and again motels are even harder to get there.

Good Luck! Ill be interested to hear how it goes.

Haha Tim!! The toolbox door is pretty sweet though so I say they're both good sides!
