Another wiring harness question. Jeez.

Couple years ago I bought a drive-by-cable harness from another forum member. It's already been modified for use as a standalone.

One - what engine code(s) would be compatible with drive-by-cable, and two, if I need to post up more info to help work this out, what info is needed exactly?

Addtional info - the harness is, I believe, from a 2005 or 2006 GMC Savanna 2500.

Do you mean which motors ran drive by wire set-ups originally?

2004-2005 ECMS were only capable of drive by wire, but I heard Street & Performance has now figured out how to reprogram that portion of the ECM.

Re: Another wiring harness question. Jeez.

Reverse-researched it a little.

The info I have shows a "U" VIN code, which matches up with an LQ4 6.0, from a 99 - 2005 truck. Guessing this would be a cable throttle application and not drive-by-wire.

Am I right?

'99-02 are generally DBC, with the exception being some higher end SUV's. DBW started across the board in '03. Vans on the other hand were cable until at least '05, so you're kind of right. Are the PCM connectors blue and red, or blue and green?

You may be on to something here.

Plugs are blue and green. All but one of the plugs are tagged, and I don't see one labelled "TAC" , "TB" or anything like that.

Just one small three or four pin plug marked "TPS".

Wondering what ECU I should be looking for, also.

Everything I have says it should be electronic throttle control.

But I think it really depends on the motor you plan to run with it.

Do you at least have one in mind? LQ4 or LQ9? Another one?

Can you alter the harness further on your own after you locate a motor?

May well be DBW, and I'm looking at the TB plug and not seeing it, you know?

Seems like the LQ4 is the most widely available 6.0, so that's what I'm after (unless I find an LQ9 for short money).

I'm familiar with reading wiring diagrams and modifying late model wiring to work in older cars so I'm fairly confident I can handle it. At least Chevrolet doesn't act as if their tech info is a matter of national security like VW does. LOL

Re: Another wiring harness question. Jeez.

LT1swap.com has some info on this. The pcm has to have a certain chip in it to function as a drive by cable, from what I recall. Some drive by wire pcm's still have the chip, some don't.
