Custom Sport Truck and Cheyenne Super nomenclature - questions
What's the difference between YE9 Cheyenne Super and Z84 Custom Sport Truck? I always thought Cheyenne Super kinda just replaced CST in the 71/2 timeframe (still referred to as CST on a SPID in 71, then as Cheyenne Super Equip in 72). BUT, here's why I'm asking - looking at a build sheet that lists both on a 72. Thoughts?
EDIT: Oh yeah - ever heard of a Cheyenne Super with PO3 hub caps???? PO3 are the chrome dog dish caps, correct -(in pic below) - I've nver seen a cheyenne super that didn't come with full wheel covers - which I believe were standard, so I'm guessing these would be listed on the build sheet because the original owner actually ordered them instead of taking the full wheel covers that came with cheyenne supers. I guess... Last edited by jocko; 04-04-2012 at 01:13 AM. |

Re: Custom Sport Truck and Cheyenne Super nomenclature - questions
From 1970
From 1971 So the regular Cheyenne package replaced the CST, and the Cheyenne Super was a step up from that. And according to the 1971 book, P03 caps were standard on Cheyenne Supers.

Re: Custom Sport Truck and Cheyenne Super nomenclature - questions
^ Yep,it sounds like you have Cheyenne Super confused with Cheyenne. CST became Cheyenne. Cheyenne Super was a whole new ball game,a new 4th and higher level (with precious few improvements over a Cheyenne). It's all about the code,Z84 vs YE9. Is this a Cheyenne or a Cheyenne Super with the PO3s? Tell us more about this truck.

Re: Custom Sport Truck and Cheyenne Super nomenclature - questions
The truck in question is a 72.
It's a Cheyenne Super. SPID says YE9 Cheyenne Super Equip as expected, all VINs/originality confirmed. Owner ALSO has the original Build Sheet - all VINs, etc match up - and it lists the following: YE9 CHEYENNE SUPER (on SPID also) Z84 CUST SPORT TRK (only on Build Sheet) PO3 CHROME HUB CAPS (only on Build Sheet) Again, all the originality has been confirmed on this truck. So, two things: 1. I'm a little confused as to YE9 and Z84 being on the SAME build sheet (SPID only lists YE9, but the build sheet is normally more comprehensive) - what's the deal with that? (Maybe it's just because everything in a Cheyenne (formerly a CST) is included in the Super...?) Seems redundant. 2.Regarding PO3 - I rechecked my 72 literature, and it agrees with what you said Sicklajoie, Chrome Hub Caps were part of the Cheyenne Super Package (vice full wheel covers like I was thinking - i.e. full wheel covers were an option even for a Super) - so, I'm not sure if it's odd that they're identified separately on the Build Sheet or if it makes sense that it's stated on the Build Sheet (because they were part of the Cheyenne Super pkg - i.e. this tells the assembly line dude which caps to put on - he goes by the build sheet in the build process). So, to be honest, I'm kinda glad it has the hub caps and the owner didn't add on the full wheel cover option, I LIKE chrome hubcaps - even if nice ones are hard to come by. But item #1 above is really making me scratch my head. I'm going to look at it Friday. I've posted some about this truck before, but finally following up with the owner. |

Re: Custom Sport Truck and Cheyenne Super nomenclature - questions
The PO3 hub caps were standard on the Cheyenne Super except with RO5 dual wheels or 10.00-16.5 tires. On C/K10 trucks full wheel covers could also be ordered either PO1 or on the C10 PA1 as well.

Re: Custom Sport Truck and Cheyenne Super nomenclature - questions
A 3/4 or srw 1 ton Cheyenne or Cheyenne Super would have had the small poverty caps, as there was no full wheel cover available for 16'/ 16.5" wheels
