Re: tach repo or rebuild ?

In the same boat-my OE tach I got off ePay quit years ago, I wonder whether to buy a Chinese repro unit or have it rebuilt.

Re: tach repo or rebuild ?

Personally, Id have it rebuilt. The chinese repop is garbage. You'll probably spend more buying the repo than having the OEM restored.

Re: tach repo or rebuild ?

I had an oem 66 tach rebuilt last restoration and the thing only gave me trouble and I had it out twice for repairs in the first 6 months. The accuracy was also not there on my oem. I'm interested in hearing from someone who actually has installed a reproduction also. On my 60 Vette, which was cable driven, I sent the tach in to Redline and they removed the original tach guts and installed an electronic upgrade and used the original tin and needle. It looks perfect and handles the electronic ignition and 400 HP to redline everytime.
