Quest for 11.50

Want to get my 86 shortie to 11.5 in the 1/4 I'm Planning on an overdrive 200r4 and some 373 gears with a locker and a 3000 stall converter with lockup and m&h race master 275 16s drag radials. My engine is putting out about 410 hp right now. I have a 5-7 drop on suspension and a race weight fiberglass cowl hood on the way.

What do you guys think it will take to pull up to 11.5?
Haven't got any timed runs yet till the new trans is back in

A gear and posi is where i would start along with a set of tires . As stated above try shifting it sooner . If you feel it pull again when you shifted you shifted to late .

Re: Quest for 11.50

I would guess that your modifications will put you in the 12.8 range.

Re: Quest for 11.50

So adding gears stall and less weight Get me halfway so then I guess more hp is in order? If I add about 90hp to my setup and lose wight with aluminum components( heads water pump and mini starter) how much closer would you say?

Re: Quest for 11.50

I'd say add Cal Trac Bars and 100 to 150 shot of nitrous. I would run Hoosier or Mickey Thompson Drag radials.

Good Luck!

Re: Quest for 11.50

At 3,525lbs (me in the truck) and 449rwhp (unlocked converter 410rwhp) I went 11.45 with the following drivetrain. 4L80E, 4,500rpm converter, 4.56 gear, 315/60/15 mt et drag radial. It probably would have went a little faster with a 26" or 28" tall tire as I was geared more for the bottle.

Re: Quest for 11.50

To be clear, is your engine putting out 410hp, or is that rwhp?

My engine is 410 hp to the flywheel.
And yes the 2004r is a lockup trans too. Same as the 700r4 just without the silly first gear ratio.

I will absolutely not run my engine on a bottle.

Re: Quest for 11.50

On a chassis dyno with the converter locked it made 449rwhp. With the converter unlocked it made 410rwhp. I am not sure if a 200r4 has a locking converter. That is why I posted both numbers so it could be compared apples to apples.

Re: Quest for 11.50

If the engine in your sig is the engine you're running, you can gain quite a bit by ditching that Thumper camshaft, and you dang sure ain't making no power at 8 grand with that setup, you're lucky it's still in one piece.

Like I said I'm going with heavy breathing heads and a solid cam. This thumper does do rather good for the street though and is decent on power

As for the 8k rpm. I built the valve train to take the abuse. An was very meticulous about my rotating assembly. Needless to say the cam doesn't support past 5800 rpm an I have a 6100rpm rev limit.

I don't see where you said that, just the mention of aluminum heads for the weight loss.
