Pics of my headers installed and info about fitment issues
Here are some pics of my headers now that they are installed and fitted. This is on my 69 with a 454. These headers are Dynomax Cermacoated headers designed for the 67-87 BBC 2WD. The headers for 73-87 BBC 4WD would not work.
The engine is sitting in the small block engine crossmember using the original small block style engine mounts. I did move the crossmember forward about 3/8" or so to give me better oil pan clearance and header clearance for the first header tube on the passenger side. To make these headers fit I did not have to make any modifications to the driver's side other than I did have to go with a shorter oil filter as this engine has an oil cooler setup which put the larger oil filter in contact with the headers. On the passenger side I had to remove a little bit of frame to give clearance for the first and second header tubes. I would guess I removed about 1/4". I also ended up grinding off a little bit of the engine crossmember tower as it was in contact with the bottom of the first header tube. In the end I had to use some spacers that I put between the engine and the engine mount bolts to raise the engine a bit on the passenger side and I also raised the drivers side by using spacers about half as big. The above modifications have me comfortable with the clearance around the oil pan and passenger side headers. I will go ahead and post a number of pics showing how the headers sit in the frame and how they are positioned in regards to the Rockwell transfer case as I hope this will be of interest to others who are doing a big block swap in a 67-72 four wheel drive. First pic is overview of drivers side.

A buddy is doing rust repairs on my cab and I should have it back maybe this weekend. Then I get to learn body work and paint - gonna do that myself for some ungodly reason - what am I thinking? So to answer your question, I have no idea - probably a month later than I think :-)

No plans, but we can make some, lol!! If you are going to start the body work, sanding, etc., we might work something out to meet at Chuck's house in Belle Plaine, and he would be glad to give/show you some helpful info. Hey Yukon, just wanted to say I like the big block. I just built one exactly like it! I love those GM valve covers. They look great on a black motor with the aluminum intake. Unfortunately, it'll be a while before I get to bolt it in. It sure looks good on the stand though.

That looks great! I am still curious to see how you get the exhaust bent around the transfer case. In the pics it looks like the headers are pointing right at the crossmember with maybe 8 inches to work with. I will be following this with interest as I am considering doing the same thing.

Breeh, the exhaust looks like it should be a piece of cake - with the first set of headers, it never would have worked, but I'm pretty confident that with these it will be fine. I'll definitely post more pics, seeings how I'm a bit of a pic whore :-)

Hey Yukon, I was looking at your pics again and was wondering if you think that a stock clutch lingage would work with those headers?
