What did you get done 4/22/12 edition
well this week i finally got some of the last minute things done to my beast. We installed the diamond plate bed rails, the chrome exhaust tip and the vent visors and off to a couple of shows we went. It was great meeting member 70time and his family at the straub buick show and again at the chick-fila show His truck is the orange one in the pics.
I ordered my turn signal switch and will r&r that this week and hopefully will get my windshield molding installed.Tomorrow and tuesday I am taking the course to get my motorcycle license.. Other than that nothing else... what about you all?

Re: What did you get done 4/22/12 edition
I had a very busy weekend. Left home at 3:00 AM Friday and drove to Charlotte NC with a friend to attend the Charlotte Auto Fair. The Auto Fair is held at Charlotte Motor Speedway and takes up the infield and most of the back stretch (outside the track) parking area. Vendors Vendors and more Vendors and who knows how many swap meet spots. We drove back late Saturday with a truck full of Chevelle parts along with a few goodies for my 50.
According to my friend's pedometer, we walked 6 miles Friday and 8 on Saturday, still didn't see everything.

Re: What did you get done 4/22/12 edition
I replaced the left, right, front and rear tie rod ends, (the sleeves were $50 very, very well spent,) got my new wheels and tires on, got the plow mount off, found some damaged wires under the hood and repaired them, removed some odd electrical things from the under the hood, fixed a vacuum leak, and pulled the exhaust manifolds. Tomorrow I gotta get the six broken studs in the manifolds pulled and hit the parts store up for doughnut gaskets, manifold gaskets, dipstick tube, o2 sensor, plugs, wires, cap, rotor and air filter. That should be enough to keep me occupied Tuesday and Wednesday night.

Re: What did you get done 4/22/12 edition
The evaporator was original from 36 years ago so I changed it this weekend before I drop motor in soon.. I have never worked on these so I had to learn as I go. Used 3m strip caulk to reseal box halves, its gooey but works great. As with anything this old, its not just replacing parts, accum bracket is riveted to fiberglass box and was loose so I had to drill out rivots, clean/sand/paint brackets then rivet back on. While it was off, I cleaned/painted original box semi-flat black.
BEFORE: AFTER: Installed restored powder coated hinges on too

Re: What did you get done 4/22/12 edition
Well I started making myself a makeshift sandblasting cabinet out of some sort of boxed coffee table base or something like that, and I'm using a storm door for a viewing window. Almost done. Total cost: $0!!

Re: What did you get done 4/22/12 edition
I drove the '71 around a bit today. Also pulled the spare tire carrier off, pulled the rear bumper off, and changed the rear diff. cover gasket & fluid. Tomorrow night it will get a new trans. filter & pan gasket, and hopefully wire up the torque converter lockup.

Re: What did you get done 4/22/12 edition
Went to a swapmeet in New Braunfels, Tx. I didn't buy much, but I did pick up 3 rally wheel center caps for $10 total. I also got an old tractor seat for $5 to make into a stool for the shop.

Re: What did you get done 4/22/12 edition
Picked up a solid rear glass for the 78 and a center console and dash bezel for my 02 for $48 at a local junk yard. Still no luck on a 73-80 sport bumper.

The glass was to thick in my passenger door. I found one at a salvage yard. Put it in, and now the window rolls up real nice.

Re: What did you get done 4/22/12 edition
I drove mine down to Pocatello to visit my buddy, left Boise at like 12:30 AM and got to his dorm bout 5AM...fun times, cranked up the AC/DC and chugged like 3 Amps, good to go! Fun weekend, went to the Monster Jam, took a crapload of pictures, inhaled way too much dust, and basically didnt sleep at all the whole weekend, lol. Drove back to Boise Monday afternoon, put about 600 miles on the truck round trip...
