Re: Thinking of building a custom Grille

The 60-61 chevy and 60-66 gmc had dual headlight grills. As did alot of the larger trucks. I am partial to the 63 grills, but have always liked the dual headlight grills. Are you planning on using the aluminum or steel grill. With two large lights on each end, definitely should be enough light.

going with steel , I would have to buy the after market grille with no lettering and it would take two grilles in this case to make one.

Re: Thinking of building a custom Grille

Normally the dual headlight grills use the smaller lights. Im not sure how it'll look with the larger lights. The bezels are going to be hard to fab up.

I think I'd cut the bezels down along with the light housing . No pain no gain in the Kustom game .

Thanks but I'm really just mulling this idea over. I also was thinking about a 60 Ford Starliner grille . But I really l enjoy doing a kustom mod that looks like it could have come from the factory .

Re: Thinking of building a custom Grille

Heres a 64-66 grill that was "modified". Im not a fan of what was done here, but somebody else's idea of a modified grill. From what I can see....at least 3 different grills here.

Re: Thinking of building a custom Grille

It just looks unfinished to me. I applaud anybody trying to invent or modify anything. But the grill in question just looks "uncomplete" somehow.

Re: Thinking of building a custom Grille

Here are a few pics of mine. used the upper part of a 4 5 6 steel grill and some head lights from a 59 imperial. It still says Chevrolet in the middle.

Re: Thinking of building a custom Grille

regarding the picture in Post #1, i think it would only look complete if you add 2 more headlights on each side, paint it green, add faux woodgrain panels all along the sides and get Chevy Chase's autograph on the glovebox...

Sorry, couldn't resist. I agree with most, those bug eyes are too big - if you want to go custom 4 headlight approach, I think movieauto's approach with the smaller lights looks much, much better.

My 2 cents only, I too admire the ambition!

I think if I put the time and work in to this " idea " for a grille I would quarter up the head lights and fit with the smaller bulbs. I was hoping for constructive input and or ideas not sarcasm. But ah thanks !

humor is sometimes a good thing on this site - some moviegoers might appreciate the levity, but it was certainly not intended as sarcasm or negative in any sense, so I apparently failed miserably in my humor attempt. I DO admire your effort and your plan, the constructive part of the post was simply to suggest smaller headlights.

Re: Thinking of building a custom Grille

I say go for it! Im a big fan of custom or different then the norm...What can go wrong? you make it and install it and you decide you dont like it swap it back out and wasted some time and a couple grills...or it turns out pimp and you rock the new grill

No worries! All good to go. If this didn't happen accidentally every once in awhile, well, "I would not be more surpised than if I woke up in the morning with my head sewn to the carpet"

Not my truck, but jacked it for the front pic to use. Did a quick photoshop....a bit strange but I kinda like it, if I have to cram an inercooler into my grill

Re: Thinking of building a custom Grille

This was done on a truck I got from a buddy. A neighbor built this for him back in the 70's. Can't recall what the headlight buckets were from but I think a Buick or Olds.
