57 on 73-87?
Hey is anyone using a 73=87 frame for a 57 style chevy short/stepside truck? I was wondering if it would work...

it will work but you front wheels will stick out of the fenders, and the wheel base is allittle long, but can be fixed by drilling a new hole in the spring pearch for the center bolt to fit in moving the rear end forward a couple inch. And the front cab mounts will have to be raised 4". In my opinion there are better choices.

Agreed, there are better choices out there. I do like these chasis for a 4X4 modification though, parts are really easy to come by!

Re: 57 on 73-87?
few years ago we actually built a 58 using a 1985 chevy blazer rolling chassis. Width was not an issue seeing we kept it a 4*4 vehicle.

Re: 57 on 73-87?
How about using offset rims? Will that make a difference on the front fender/tire issue? I can get a chassis that is almost done (lowered and c notched) really cheap from a friend, that is why I am considering it...

if you used 17" or bigger off set wheels might work but smaller hit on the brake caliper

Put a 70's camaro clip on the original frame and the camaro rear under the back. There's a ton of them out there and lots of info on the net. It is really simple to do if you can weld.

Re: 57 on 73-87?
My 59 has a 73 c10 front clip grafted to it. the guy I bought it from never finished it but I like where he was headed with it. and like you I'm also considering doing a frame swap because my fab skills are not as good as his and I just don't wanna risk it.
