Post 1963-66 doorskins smashed from opening to far

I have a 65 C-10 shortbed fleetside, it's pretty rough , but I would like to have the doorskins straight like they should be, I guess a previous owner opened the door to far and dented the front part of the door on the fender, does anyone know where I can get doorskins? It's the driver's side.

I looked up the fiberglass parts site, I might just get another door, but I noticed at the bottom of the ad it says only for show purposes, does that mean if someone slams into me going to have some broken bones? I always thought of these old trucks as tanks, would protect you pretty good in a crash, I rearended a 2000 Toyota Camry at about 10 miles per hour in a 97 Ford E-250 3/4 ton work van, and it took about2 feet out of the cars overall length, the only damage on the van was a slightly bent down bumper! By the way it was a company van, so don't say anything about me driving a Ford!

Try www.lmctruck.com for door skins for the '64-'66 Chevy trucks.

Re: 1963-66 doorskins smashed from opening to far

Just about any board vendor here sells the steel doors as well as us. They fit good and are not a problem to install no more then any door. Doors are allways a pain. As usual they are repos and sound like it but they do fit. At least the ones we have installed do. Just look up the board vendors on this site. The lower door skins are only thing avail. as far as I know

Complete door shells are available. Try:

http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cbe/0017.asp

Items #38-9170 & 38-9171. They are $479.95.

The lower inner and outer doors skins are also available from many of the aftermarket truck suppliers, including:

www.lmctruck.com
www.classicparts.com
www.bowtiebits.com
www.oldchevytrucks.com

and many others. I hope this helps.

You dont think you can straighten out the damage? I had the same problem and it fixed fairly easily with my old school dent puller and some filler. Post a pic of how bad the damage is, I'd like to see what your dealing with. Also... Get them door checks replaced so you dont make the same mistake!

Re: 1963-66 doorskins smashed from opening to far

O'Reilly Auto can order them through Auto Body Panels in Lexington or Louisville, Ky for about $150.00 a door shell (fenders are 70.00). I have not ordered mine yet, but other parts I have ordered have fit well except one, which ABP replaced. As a shop, I pay more trying to order direct. I guess O'Reilly gets at jobber cost. Thanks Liz!!!! Maybe we can still learn some good suppliers, even though 65 C10 may not benefit from it!!! LOL Looks like LILRED was online a little bit late yesterday and first answered back! Jerry

Re: 1963-66 doorskins smashed from opening to far

I answer old posts all the time. Things change in this world quite a bit in 5-6 years. My goal was to share with others, the availability of new parts and experiences. Isn't that the goal of the Forums? I pull old posts all the time. I find it very effective in sharing information.

Thanks for the heads up Liz, however I knew it was from 2001 when I went to the last page of the forum to find it. By the way Vic, the posts do have a date on them.

In any event, maybe someone learned about door checks or better yet, door shells that were not available in 2001 for the '64-'66 Chevy trucks. Perhaps it helped someone or perhaps not, but it appears per the number of replies, it is still a valid topic with interest. I notice sometimes the forum gets a little sterile, with no new topics, so I like adding new dialog.
