22 inch wheels on a 60-66
I have a set of 22's that my wife would like to use on her truck IF it looks ok.
I have sat here in front of this computer trying to find photos of 60-66 trucks and all I am finding are 67-72 trucks and assorted others. Anyone out there on the site have any photos of 60-66 trucks with 22's???

Re: 22 inch wheels on a 60-66
I am not sure what they would look like, they are on my wifes Navagator now and we are thinking about getting rid of the lincoln.
Just a thought. I bought US indy slotted mags and was going to go for a 70's street rod look but she wants a luxury stylish look.

I'd imagine those are the wrong bolt pattern... I'd stick with the slotted mags either way! But I like an old school look.

Re: 22 inch wheels on a 60-66
You'll need to check the offset on those rims, you may end up with rubber and rim in the sheetmetal.

Re: 22 inch wheels on a 60-66
i think 20's are the biggest rim that look decent on fullsize trucks. 22's are a toss up to me. seen some that look ok (usually on a slammed truck) but most i don't like (stock or barely lowered usually). i think some 18 or 20" IROC's would look purdy good on one but my kid wants a different look

Re: 22 inch wheels on a 60-66
Paid a lot of $$ for new tires a couple months ago.
I would need to change from 6 to 5 lug to use them, no sheet metal issues but concerned about steering up front. I am not "slamming" the truck just lowering 3-4 inches. Need too changes to 5 lug anyway for the other wheels so I might just try them and see. If it looks stoopid... they aint goin on... Still haven't found many photos on line..

Re: 22 inch wheels on a 60-66
Not sure if you know this but GM and Ford never shared a bolt pattern. If those are 5 lug, they are likely 5 on 4.5". GM 5 lug truck is 5 on 5". Before you spend any time think of using these (unless they are universal pattern) I would double check the wheel bolt pattern and see if they would even fit a GM pattern.
BTW, slot mags for the win!!!!

Same as Chevy/GMC I used a 9" rear disk brake diff. from one on a truck project. The wheels I have are 5 on 5 1/2 and 5 on 5 bolt patterns.

Re: 22 inch wheels on a 60-66
The wheels I have will bolt on.
The question is, will they fit the chassis? The 63 I am building for my wife is sitting on jack stands now. I will have time to change out the suspension this coming weekend and then I will test fit the wheels. The slotted mags have tires on them and I will test fit those too. I would like to see a 63 with the 22's like I have. Yes I like the slotted mags better but the truck belongs to the wife. It's really her call as long as everything is OK for fitment.

Re: 22 inch wheels on a 60-66
I have never been a fan of 22's but thats because am old But it really come to the owners as some 22's look better than other so I guess it might have to do with the paint and truck.
Good luck...what ever you decide will be a right decision

Re: 22 inch wheels on a 60-66
I am over a half century old and the 22's aren't my style exactly. They are expensive and if I trade this navigator off the tires are not going with the suv.
Seems that not many 60-66 guys have used them, at least I haven't found many photos of them here on this site.

Re: 22 inch wheels on a 60-66
I've been struggling for some time to decide on a size. I've gone back and forth between smoothies, steelies, mags and larger modern wheels. The one thing that keeps me hesitant on the larger wheels is how can I search for them and narrow the search to those wheels that have a center bore large enough for my stock drum front/back setup?

I am a tight wad and I spent almost $1100 just for the tires on my wifes vehicle and since we decided to dump the gas guzzling turd... I sure ain't sendin it down the road with almost $3000 worth of rims and tires. I test fitted the 22's on my wifes truck and it had to go to stock ride height to do it but it would work. It just looked funny to me. It might be better on the 63 'burb. I am going to try them on the 63 short bed again and take some photos. The NITTO tires are almost 12" wide so.... I don't know.. I'll let you guys tear it apart when I post some photos... probably next weekend when the suspension and sheet metal is all buttoned up for good.

Re: 22 inch wheels on a 60-66
Harder to find 5 lug around here since all of the new chevys are six lug, have a ton of choices.
I wish i would have stayed 6 on the 62 because i like the new styles of wheels but oh well then i wouldnt have disc all the way around |

Re: 22 inch wheels on a 60-66
I like the new GM 6 lug wheels too but they use a 3" center instead of a 4" center on ours. So we either have to convert the drivetrain to the smaller center or possibly bore the newer wheels. The bolt pattern is the same. I plan on getting replica Silverado SS wheels in Chrome for my '66, though I'll have to decide how I want to fit them.

There is a great article in Classic Truck magazine about how to measure for rims, you may want to get this issue.
