5.3l swap in 72 blazer
Hey all I'm a long time reader but a first time poster. I just wanted to say this is a great site full of good info and helpful people. As you know by the title I have swapped a 5.3l engine out of a 03 silverado into my 72 blazer and I am having a heck of antime trying to figure out how to get the power steering high pressure side to work. I have been doing some reading but nobody has come right out and said here's what you need. So I know the swap has been done many times but what did you do to make it work? I don't really have any hose manufacturers around me so if there's an adaptor or somebody I can call I would greatly appreciatte it. The trucks running and this is the only thing holding me back. Thanks fellas in advance for the help.

Re: 5.3l swap in 72 blazer
Hmmm interesting...did you use the factory 72 blazer line to the ps pump then? I might be going at it wrong as I'm trying to adapt the 03 silverado line to the 72 blazer gear box. The factory gear box on the blazer is an inverted flare and the high pressure line on the 03 silverado is a oring style line....

i remember now...i made my own lines. i bent the power steering lines when i was bending the fuel and brake lines throughout the whole thing. just made my lines from the pump to the resivour with the different styles if i remember right.

Ok so you used the factory 5.3l lines and then cut off the oring fitting that would gononro the gear box and flared it yourself? Man I'd think somebody would make a line or an adaptor for this application with as many of these swaps being done...

Don't hold me too it, but I believe the fittings out of the modern steering box come out and will thread into you old steering box. Basically the steering boxes are machined with the same threads.

Re: 5.3l swap in 72 blazer
All you have to do is remove the high pressure fitting from the back of your old pump,,,,and it screws right into the back of the new pump,,,then you can use your factory lines, works just fine.
That's how I did mine. Really simple solution that doesn't cost a dime. |

Oh perfect!! I guess I didn't realize the old 350 ps pumps had an adaptor fitting in them. I will get one hunted down! Thanks for the info!

Re: 5.3l swap in 72 blazer
Actually just about any old style power steering pump should have the same fitting. I don't think the flare size or threads changed throughout the 60's and 70's.
It's about a 1" nut size, it unscrews with a spring behind it, so be ready. |
