Can you tell me what this small canister looking item is in the line that runs between
my brake booster and manifold? I believe the previous owner must have installed it.

The previous owner must have installed it. I'm scratching my head at what purpose it would serve.

Here's a link to a previous thread. It is a filter used on later GM cars and trucks. I think mid-70s until maybe sometime in the 80s.

Thanks a lot guys!
I'll cut the hose so it fits close to the manifold and
maybe the breather will hide it.
If not I'll ditch it!

Aftermarket one-way valve to replace the stock one-way valve on the booster!

It's not a filter, It's a vacuum check valve that GM started installing in the mid/late 70's. It lets the booster hold a vacuum a little longer if the engine quits or is shut off.
