Need help decoding a VIN number

Hey all,

I was hoping to find a little help in decoding the VIN for my truck. It is a 67 GMC Camper Cruiser and the VIN is:
M2590DP4100B

Seems out of order for my data. WAG it to be a V6 Wideside 2500 '68. Serial number 41008. Built at Pontiac plant.

I think your missing 2 C's.
C=2wd???????
M= v6
2= 3/4 ton
59=127inch longbed
OD= wideside
P= pontiac assy plant
C= 1967??????
4100= build number
B= GVW 6001 to 10,000

Thanks Bruceman! The info I posted came directly off of my title so I hope that is not incorrect. However, I do believe I am missing 2 C's because my truck is a 67 (at least according to the title and grille with GMC stamped into it, and it is also 2wd) However, it is listed as having a GVW of 5,000 pounds and you are saying my VIN calls out 6,000 plus......now I am really confused.

Bruceman is right on. Check the Vin plate on door jamb for full correct VIN. It looks like your title has some errors on it. If your truck has 8 lug axles its a 3/4 ton, which matches the CM2 prefix. A half ton would be CM1. A 4x4 would be KM2 or KM1 but those are pretty few and far between in 1967 especially.

Wow Erik, thats a rare and special truck. It looks to be a special order truck. While its yours to do with as you choose, I hope it doesn't loose to much originality. If you want a modded truck you may want to start with something less unique. Thats a collectable piece the way you found it. I am really curious about your hydraulic steering since mine has that listed also but it has a conventional style power steering gearbox. It is believed that the 67's all had ram assist if they had power steering. What does yours have?

Special K, here is an example of a Custom with the fancy side badges. I'm surprised to see the 305 on the SPID, that would be base for a CM vin. Actually, I'm surprised to see a SPID at all, most 67's GMC's didn't have.

I have one similar to Eriks and wish it was that original. Mines been repainted, was originally aqua or mint green. I bought this for parts but I am thinking more and more about restoring it.

Thanks for the kind words VW. I didn't know it was that rare of a truck. I had heard the "Camper Cruiser" was kind of rare (especially finding that badge in the aftermarket), but I didn't know the truck as a whole was overly rare. The truck was my uncles until he passed away. It was then given to me and I am building in his memory. He was a hot rod kinda guy so I am going in that direction somewhat. While I did lower it and am planning a v-8 swap for reliability purposes, I am not going to do any wild body modifications or paint schemes (perhaps hot rod black?).

This truck was special ordered in NY and I have the documents showing that (they were in the glove box). I wish I still had the 10 1/2' camper that was ordered with it...that would be pretty cool thing to have. It shows it was ordered Maroon (Vermillion is suppose) however, I posted pics on a different thread and someone commented that was not the original color since the firewall and door jambs are more of a silverish color (Fawn perhaps). Also, the body mouldings were removed at some point and the holes filled. I do not know why. There are some areas that show possible evidence of a repaint so I am not really sure what to think at this point. Someone mentioned a cab swap but I do not think that is the case unless the glovebox door was switched since the SPID matched my title and VIN. The VIN plate in the door jamb does not appear to be original though....

You mentioned the word collectable. How collectable do you think it is value wise? I guess I should hang on to the original parts like the rear and the split ring rims? They are laying in the garage taking up space now...

Sorry to ramble but sometimes that is the best way to get the most information.

it looks like the cab vin plate has the original rosette rivets and it matches the spid so it must be original. Why did you think it wasn't? The paint comment on the other thread was made without knowledge of the special order and custom paint option on this truck.

As far as collectability, it really isn't that common since 1) it is a 67 gmc 2) its a camper cruiser, and 3) most importantly, it is a special order truck. You will see 100 or so smallblock later years for every one of these. It is desireable to me and a select few others so value wise not as valuable as some other trucks but it certaily is more unusual. If you were closer id be throwing you dollar figures.

From what I have seen and read over the years I'm willing to bet that the fawn is correct and original for your truck. The rivets look fine. From the pictures I'd say you have a nice, fairly original truck. If it were me I'd start tracking down the moldings and think about putting them back on. Campers are out there and if you wanted to, a period rig could be reassembled.
