Dana 60 Rear 3.73 Posi (68 K20)
Sold
Edit: See last post for more info on internals, also new phone number. Swapping out the rear D60 full floater out of the rear of my 68 K20 Suburban. Axle is currently in the truck but will be removed early next week (5/14-5/15) to make way for a 10.5AAM 14BFF. Axle functions fine but I need a beefier axle behind my Cummins. I have only driven to and from storage behind the 6BT but I know it won't hold 800lbft and a six speed so I'm swapping before it breaks. Brakes and e-brake work and will be included. Located in Sioux Falls, SD. I will be moving to Fargo, ND shortly. I can deliver a reasonable distance if I have business in that area. Let me know where you are (upper midwest mainly) and we may be able to make something happen. I prefer not to ship but I do have an axle pallet and can drop off at a location with your arrangements. $200 complete or $150 without 3.73s and posi unit. Reply in thread or call (Seven O Uno) 541-7081

Re: Dana 60 Rear 3.73 Posi (68 K20)
Are you positive of the ratio being 3.73:1? It's my understanding these trucks weren't offered with that ratio. Is it the original rear? I believe the ratios offered were 3.54,4.11.and 4.56 w/Dana in K/20s. When I bought my '72 K2500 I was told it had 3.73s because it cruised so well on the hiway. I didn't know better and believed it. Then,I found out on this website that ratio wasn't offered. I checked and discovered I had 4.10s.
I may be wrong, but that's the common understanding here about 3.73s. They could have been swapped because Dana did offer that ratio. Not trying to mess up your sale. Just making sure we know what you have. If I'm wrong,I'm sorry and will delete this post.

Re: Dana 60 Rear 3.73 Posi (68 K20)
I confirmed the numbers stamped on the ring gear when I first changed the gear oil last year. I will pop off the cover when I pull the rear to check again. They were probably swapped in around the same time the Toro Flow diesel was put into the 'burb, as it's redline is lower than a gas motor.
Special-K: You have way more knowledge than I do when it comes to these trucks and you're always helping people, so it's all good. Better to confirm something than advertise it wrong (I just went through that with my 14bolt, they loaded a 11.5 3.50 ratio when i bought a 10.5 3.73 so that took some time to straighten out.) The axle also has slip on drums, if that's any indication of it's origin in this truck or not.

Re: Dana 60 Rear 3.73 Posi (68 K20)
That really should have been my question,"Do you know if the gears were swapped".cuz Dana definitely made 3.73s. I kinda figured that was a possibility with a the other drivetrain swapping that went on. I even started a thread to make sure I was right with the no 3.73s (originally) thing, which was confirmed. It would be a great swap for someone with a K/20 since 3.73 10-bolts are all over the place and bolt in.

I am interested. Getting some shipping details together. I can ship axles without a skid so that will not be a problem or if you have a skid it will drop it down a freight class. I would pay for the straps to secure it to pallet. I can have it picked up wherever but freight terminal or business address is preferred because they are the cheapest rate and run the same.

Let me know what you come up with for shipping, I can deliver it to a dock / company on a pallet if it makes it easier as I don't have a business address.

Alright that's sweet. Just didn't want to be much trouble. I will see which freight terminal is closest to you.

Re: Dana 60 Rear 3.73 Posi (68 K20)
I started pulling the axle tonight and I noticed the spring mounts have cracked welds on them. I can grind and weld them solid again if you would like. I will also take pictures and let you decide if you want me to or not, just giving you full disclosure.

Re: Dana 60 Rear 3.73 Posi (68 K20)
Only the passenger side was cracked, but I ground out both sides and put down a root and a woven cover pass on both sides to make sure you won't have any problems.

Re: Dana 60 Rear 3.73 Posi (68 K20)
Axle is ready to go on a pallet, just let me know where to drop it off for shipping and I can take paypal or moneyorder (if moneyorder no shipping until cashed).
Thanks, Andrew

Re: Dana 60 Rear 3.73 Posi (68 K20)
Axle is in my storage unit in SoDak; I am moving to Fargo, ND for work. If you can arrange something let me know, otherwise I'll keep this for another project.
Or if anybody local wants it, I'm willing to have family meet you at my storage for pickup in Tea, SD

Re: Dana 60 Rear 3.73 Posi (68 K20)
Back to the top and still for sale.
After discussing the axle with a fellow forum member then decoding the axle casting numbers and pulling a shaft I have determined that this is a Ford axle. Same 63" WMS (I personally measured) as a GM Dana 60, but 16 spline shafts and a posi. How it got under my 68 K20 I don't know, maybe the same time as the Toroflow conversion but it fit very well. Shipping crate (for potential buyers or reference if someone is looking to build one)

Re: Dana 60 Rear 3.73 Posi (68 K20)
Back up top, nice narrow width for early trucks or compact trucks looking for some beef under the rear.
