5.3 cam for stock converter

Hey guys just got my 5.3 today a 2001 from Tahoe complete with trans and all wiring oil cooler radiator the whole 9 yards and all wiring under hood and fuse block at an awesome price too! Can't wait to install in my 85 c10. Im hoping my budget will allow for a cam swap I am wanting a noticeable lumpy idle but would like to run stock rocker arms and stock converter for now. Any cam suggestions out there I will be running the Efi with the truck manifold

Just wait until you can do it right...you know the cam, new higher lift/higher seat pressure valve springs, chrome moly pushrods, new valve seals...I think you'll find that 5.3 to have plenty of punch to get you going. Not only that....you'll have less to troubleshoot on your initial install... just in case it doesn't going perfectly smoothly.

When I built my 6.0L 1st go round with a carb all went well...having a few issues getting the efi going tho.

If you want a rumbly idle with a stock converter, check out the smallest Comp Thumpr-- just don't expect it to be terribly well mannered...

Comp 212/218 .522/.529 on 111 or 110, pushrods, LS6 springs and you're done.

As always, I will reccommend the COMP 54-408-11 cam. With a truck and stock converter, I can only assume you want good street manners and don't need max HP at 6000+ RPM, but would rather have usable torque.
You will most likely get a ton of replies to get the LS6 cam or GM Hot cam. Personally, I think those cams will fall flat on their faces with the truck intake. If you go with the COMP that I listed (or similar), you will have mountains of torque with a truck intake, and shouldn't need to change your valvetrain, because lift is fairly mild.
Go to COMP's website and use their CamQuest tool. You can plug in your engine info, and it will give presumed dyno numbers for their cams.

Going to be hard to get the sound you want with stock TC. I am told a 224 intake duration is the biggest you can go with the stock TC, I am tempted to try it but probably will stick to the 218 cam I have here....
