Gas Tank Stinks

On my new 1966, drove it today and the whole cab stinks like gas, like eye bleeding smell. Tank seems original and a bit lose in neck filler, like it needs a clamp or something.

If I changed to a new tank inside the cab, what are my expectations? no smell of gas from in cab tanks or what? How bad do yours smell

Re: Gas Tank Stinks

Provided the tank is solid, you only have two points where it will leak. From the fuel filler neck or the sending unit area. Actually, the sending unit can leak from the gasket or from the union where it meets up with the hard line. Tighten up both of those areas and you'll be fine.

Re: Gas Tank Stinks

Thanks. I will try all of the above and may even just put a new tank in as I do not wish to relocate it.

1963 c10 please send me a PM about wipers

Re: Gas Tank Stinks

I would replace the filler tube, 2 hose clamps and the sending unit gasket 1st. That's only $10-12 in parts, which should fix your problem. If the old tank isn't leaking, I wouldn't replace it...personnally. The repops are Chinese garbage and you may find more problems down the road from a cheap replacement tank.
