80 Chevy swb Quick Rebuild
I found this truck on craigslist. The price was right, so it went home with me. My plans are to do a quick makeover, paint, lowering kit, wheels, interior.
The good news is that it is a rust-free, original paint, interior, unmolested truck. The only bad is a few dents and some poor spot repair. The engine runs great and even the air blows cool. |

Re: 80 Chevy swb Quick Rebuild
I got it home and found the heater core leaking. It was a quick fix. The best part is that I get to put the kids to work!

Re: 80 Chevy swb Quick Rebuild
Did you remove the old heater core with the hood still attached? My heater core just started leaking yesterday and I'm going to be tearing into mine this weakend. Never replace a heater core before though and someone said you had to take the hood off. Any tips?

I love those slotted mags. I've been looking for a set for awhile now. Nice build.

Re: 80 Chevy swb Quick Rebuild
Here are 2 more pics. They are cell phone pics so not the best. I am very happy with the paint. I am picking it up from the bodyshop in the morning, then back to assembly.

Re: 80 Chevy swb Quick Rebuild
I got a little bit more done. I haven't had much free time on account of my job. Unfortunately building cars is not my day job I got all the glass back in, I have all the trim back on the driver side, excpt for the front fenders. i put the grille back in as well. I put in the flip kit in the back and I am waiting on the front spindles and springs to finish the front. Here are the best photos that I can take at 11pm at night. |

Re: 80 Chevy swb Quick Rebuild
Almost forgot. I also got my finshed door panels back from the upholstry shop. I have them and the dash pad redone in ultra leather to match the seat. I will see if I can get photos of the dash pad later.

So finally got the springs and spindles. I also put the wheels that I am gonna run on this. Here is a peek. I still have to put on the rest of the mouldings. That job is no fun!!
I hope to get more done on my next day off. Its been hot here. 110 plus degrees. more pics to come. |

Re: 80 Chevy swb Quick Rebuild
Looking really good, I'm glad you went the two tone and trim route. Seems like the original trucks are getting harder to find and people just want to shave them and paint them purple, still 20-30 years later...
So, thanks!!!

Re: 80 Chevy swb Quick Rebuild
Its funny you mentioned that. It has been a big topic of conversation with me lately. Trends seem to come and go, but resto-mod or resto rod (what ever they call it) is always timeless. Seems like all you have to do is change wheels with the current trend. So thank you! Its nice to see people seeing what I see. Plus I think 73 to 80 chevs only look good tradional

Re: 80 Chevy swb Quick Rebuild
I had Sunday off, so I thought that I would get the back just a bit lower. I added 2 inch shackles to the back. I think it looks alot better now. I am hoping to get the rest of the mouldings on, but it has been too hot. The double sided tape will not adhere well in this heat. Its been 110 plus out and it has been impossible. I am hoping for a little break in the heat so that I can finish those. Then it will be back at the upholstry shop to get the wool carpet in, and to the sprayin liner shop. |
