My A/C works!
Just wanted to share where it can be understood how excited I am. My buddy who's a refrigeration tech; pressurized (pic), sniffed with an electronic tool, and charged my system with R12. It's been a long time since I've driven a rig with R12 in it. HOLY COW this thing is cold!

Re: My A/C works!
Did you pull vacume on the system and hold it before filling? You may have just wasted that R-12. Did you put oil back in the system?
Did you have the system open for some reason? Anytime you open the system no matter how short of time you need to pull a vacume on it and hold it for @ least 30 minutes if not more.

Re: My A/C works!
Congrats on getting it working! Waiting on the AC box seals from Classic Parts, to re-install and setup my factory AC with r12.
Man, can I feel your excitement! This is high on my priority list and the last "big" thing I have to do on my truck, before getting out in the nice cold AC and enjoying the truck!

Re: My A/C works!
Looks like you changed the wheels out since you got it! I was just in Bothell for a couple of days (business). So all you did was get it checked and charged? Sweet!

Re: My A/C works!
Congrats
I got my A/C working the other day too, but mine is out of a 90 chevy, converted to r-134 and it was blowing out 42 degree air today. I just need to get dash vents so it will blow on me rather than the windshield....but its better than nothing right now. |

Re: My A/C works!
Is the R12 colder than the 134A?

Re: My A/C works!
i was going to ask the same question. I know the 134 push is an enviro issue so can't get 12 unless from a good bro-in-law. Is there a thread on here anywhere that discusses what one needs to do to change from 12 to 134?
Congrats - glad you found a way to keep it r12, that's nice! |

When my '72 Chevelle was my daily driver, EVERY time I got out to get the mail after an AC ride my glasses fogged up. THE ONLY time my glasses have fogged up since I started rolling around in R134a automobiles was when I was on a buisness trip to Atlanta where it was REALLY HOT and HUMID. Now in a smaller space like a truck cab, the less efficient at cooling R134a works ok. It will never cool as well as R12 but with modern upgrades to your condenser it will keep you cool in the summer. Not fog your glasses like R12 cold but it will do ok. I'm using a stock condenser and up north here where summer days above 90 are few and far between it does fine. Down south where it is misery all summer you may want to upgrade your condenser. I did a write-up a while ago. The following link contains yet another link to a site that helped me convert my stock, set for R12 POA to work with R134a. Unfortunately the ackits.com (autoacforum.com) link no longer has the pictures it used to contain. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=478564

Re: My A/C works!
I have my truck upgraded to 134-A and it works great. Down here in SC it's humid as all get out and I wouldn't go back to R-12.
The 134-A works great with my mods I did. I swapped everything out to a late model setup and it works great 85 degree days I'm running 40 are less inside the cab. The 134-A takes a little bit to cool off but it stays cool once it cools off. I bought a condensor for 134-A and a small sanderson compressor for mine. The old A-6 compressor's just couldn't handle it. I took the old POA valve out of it also. I closed up the cowl vent solid, then I open the passenger side vent inside the truck to let it circulate and it works great. I've added this stuff to the system as well.
