700R has reverse and first but no second....Help

Oky I drove to my night course on monday everything worked fine. when I left there was first but no second or third. so I drove part way home in first. then I turned down a one way street with no cars around and slammed it into reverse the went foreward still no second then I did it again it worked fine the rest of the way home. When I went to take it to work this morning there was no second again. About a month ago I had it pop out of gear as it was suppos to shift into overdrive did not think much of it.

Also this weekend I blew a tranny line down a dirt road I noticed it start slipping so I shut off the motor right away saw the brake and fixed it with a piece of hoes and some hose clamps. I only had a liter of tranny fluid to put in so I put it in and drove to a gas station and topped it up (it needed 3 liters) drove home no problems.

What do you think could be wrong ?

Thanks

How did you hook up the TV cable? How did you adjust it? How many miles since instalation?
This sounds like one of the ways these 700s act when they are hooked up wrong. The bad thing is that they do this right before they become very expensive paper weights.

Do you think you might of burn some clutches or something? I'd do a service on it soon and change the filter and fluid.

I Should have said that this tranny is in our 87 Bubran

T.V cable is adjusted properly, and the shifter linkage is good. I talked to a tranny guy and he said that it sounds like there is metal filings in the barings probibly(spell) time for a rebuild after 450000 km I think it's time.

Thanks for the help.

the only thing I can think of is the tv cable not being set-up properly. Would it hurt to flush it out and put a new filter and fluid into it?

Had a 83' s-10 blazer (the weak tranny years) it just gave up the ghost one day. It wouldnt shift out of first ,ate up all kinds of stuff in there, you may want to take a butter knife to the piggy bank.lol
