Frame vin decoder

Advice from a fellow member told me to post here about my frame vin I'd help. I have a 1968 c10 mounted on a newer frame but not sure what year. I removed the cab and found the vin on two places on the passenger side on top of the frame. From what I gathered was it might be an early 80s frame. . Can you determine the year? Do I need to post other pictures? Thanks guys.

Re: Frame vin decoder

The GM Light Truck parts books devote several pages to decoding VIN numbers. These are links to the first page of the VIN information in each parts book for the 73-92 square trucks. You can page forward and back from there.

1973-1978 GM Identification Plate http://gmpartswiki.com/getpage?pageid=60415

1979-80 GM VIN system pages http://gmpartswiki.com/getpage?pageid=57011

1981-1992 GM VIN system pages http://gmpartswiki.com/getpage?pageid=58949

I thought the whole VIN was stamped into the frame but I've never looked. Someone with more knowledge than me may chime in. Keith??

Assuming that number is the last 3 + the 6 digit production sequence from the VIN of the parent vehicle.

RTFM... GM Parts Books, GM Schematics, GM service manuals, and GM training materials...Please include at least the year and model in your threads. It'll be easier to answer your questions.
And please let us know if and how your repairs were successful.

I agree; looks good to me.

The full VIN/partial VIN varied a little bit, based on model year and production plant.
