I have an extra tranny lying around and i thought this might help me save some ga$. I have a 71 C20 350 and was wondering if this would work. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Yea it will work (your results may vary). I did it and it's been done and documented quite a bit by others. I searched this site and others on the web and found a wealth of info. Best advice I could give is do your research, homework, and get the TV cable right.

not sure what you have for a tranny now, but the 700r4 is a different length than the th350. You will most likely need to modify the driveshaft. A worthwhile upgrade especially if you have a working converter lock. I wired mine to lock in forth gear.

If its a c20 im assuming it has either a th400 or a manual trans. If you use your truck as a truck you will regret the weaker 700r4 fairly quickly. They never put a 700r4 in a 3/4 ton from the factory for a reason.

My old 1986 GMC 2500 came with a 700R4 from the factory. It never gave me any problems. I used the truck to pull a 26ft 18000# trailer. The truck blow its motor before the tranny ever gave me any problems. I pulled the tranny before I sent the 86 to the crusher and will be using it in my 67 when I do my motor and frame swap.
