My Build, 1972 4wd DD is finally coming together!
I started this project in 2009 buying a 1972 Blazer. After driving it home from Cottage Grove, OR I noticed that it had a power drain somewhere. While i was rewiring the entire harness front to back i decided to take the whole damn thing apart, and thats when the fun started!

Here are a few pictures of the beast before the tear down.
At this time it wasn't in too bad shape and i hadn't found some of the problems that i would find later. It had some front end damage and a 70 clip on it instead of the 72. Otherwise i thought it was great! |

That's when i found out that the wiring harness was hacked. After trying to find the culprit, i decided to replace the entire wiring harness.

After a few months of the Blazer sitting in the rain not running, i decided i had to do something, i even thought about selling it. Instead I decided to do a frame off restoration, LQ4 Swap, and other fun stuff.
My buddy and I started tearing the thing apart... |

We went back through and soda blasted the frame as well as gave it a nice coating of POR 15. That stuff is amazing.

We swapped out the old 350 and replaced it with a LQ4 and 4L65e. The transmission was given major upgrades to make sure it could handle the 6.0 Liter engine. We also installed the FAST LSXRT intake, FAST rails, and new headers. Flow-master 50's exhaust. Vintage Air front runner system as well to shine it up.

Here we are loading it up to take it to the paint prison for the next few months. Its going to be Chevy Orange with a black top and trim. Hopefully he gets it done by August so I can have some summer to use it.

Replaced all brake components and lines.
We also completely replaced both front and rear differentials while we were at it. Here is the new Griffin radiator with two 13" fans and shroud that will be installed. It is also ported for the LQ4 engine to cut down on the amount of tubing running around in the compartment.

What headers did you use? Are there any clearance issues?

Re: My Build, 1972 4wd DD is finally coming together!
I used the Gibson Header GP129. They were pretty well priced but not the best. THe chrome has some shadowing to it. They also don't fit well. We had to trim the frame on each side to fit, not to mention that they collect at a bad spot and had to run the exhaust different. in hindsight, i think there is a vendor on here that makes ones that fit perfectly for the frame.

Thanks for the info on the fit and finish. I will try and find that vendor. I am at the stage on my k5 where I need to order headers.

Re: My Build, 1972 4wd DD is finally coming together!
Yeah, I had to get one with AC as well. I am not sure on the stereo, any recommendations? I know LMC and Brothers sell one that fits in the original spot, so i was thinking doing that with a heavy amplifier direct to the speakers and sub. The color is perfect too. I cant wait until the whole thing is done!
