72 Family Truckster

Made a deal with a guy in Idaho for this burb. 72' 3/4 ton 4x4 with a 400 SB. Going to replace my 05' Avalanche 2500 with this. Getting rid of a vehicle payment for something I use less than 2000 miles a year. Right now it's a driver I can use and work on with the kids as I go. More or less redoing what 40 years of previous owners has caused. Clean up the body, redo the interior, and make the drive-train dependable and strong.

looks sweet! I think the bottom under the trim would look really cool white. I know thats not original but just an idea. I even like the old turbine wheels!

Yeah, I like the wheels too but not to many choices for 16.5's any more

I like the white lowers and I also really like this color scheme with the white center.

The burb came from Boise. He owned it for a couple years and the owner before him bought it from New Mexico.

Re: 72 Family Truckster

With winter heading this way time to start working on the burb. It comes a time when you need to pick your projects. I decided to part out my jeep project to fund the buildup of the burb which will see more daily use then a few times a year.

Jeep rockcrawler project.

Purchased this today for the heart of the rig.

2000 3/4ton 4x4 with 6.0l.
Right now I'm planning on dropping the 72' body on to the 00' frame and cutout all the IFS and run a 79' Ford HP60 front.
The plan is to do light trail-riding with so it'll be sitting on 37's.
I'm hoping to run all the wiring and controls out of 00' upgrading to power windows and locks as well. I'll install all the seats out of the 00' as well.

Re: 72 Family Truckster

Well after getting rid of some stuff around the house it was time to drag the donor burb back home. After replacing a couple blown fuses from the accident and punctured oil filter, the burb fired right up and runs great. Took it for a test drive around the block and it seems to drive great minus the broken upper ball-joints from the rollover. Was able to get some of the body cut off with more continuing this week. Tearing it down is a little time consuming since I plan on using the new electrical harness in the 72', so I'm labeling every connector on what it's location was. Here's some pics for your enjoyment

Re: 72 Family Truckster

Keep us updated. The green one is in some great shape from what I can tell, and it sits so even. Does it have blocks? I'm glad you changed out the grill. The original looks so much better.

Keep up the good work.

Re: 72 Family Truckster

Finally making a little progress on the burb's. I've talked myself in and out of different scenarios and finally decide on a path forward. I'm going to continue with using the 00' frame for the drivetrain. I'm also going to keep the IFS up front for a nice smooth ride. I ordered a shackle flip and zero rate kit from ORD this week. I'm hoping with that setup it'll push the axle forward closer to the original 72' wheelbase of 127". If not I'll move the front spring hanger forward an 1" or 2. Front the front lift for know I'm going to run new torsion keys giving it about 3" of lift. Eventually I liked to swap that out for a full 4" lift for the front. Now time to start making body mounts to adapt the new to the old. The plan right now is to run a 35" tire on it.

Re: 72 Family Truckster

Well unfortunately right now their is no progress being made on the burb. We are undergoing a huge house remodel so the yellow one is put into storage. I am putting the green one hard to work though
I did end up adding another '72 to the collection. So that makes it a total of three. I couldn't pass this white one up for $600. The plan is to use all the doors off the white one for the yellow one. The white will get turned into our family wheeling rig. I'm going to put a dana 60 and 14 bolt under it, and run a set of 40's on it and trim out all the rust for the bigger tires. The engine in the white one had a rod let go, so I'll put the 350 from the yellow one in it and run that. Here's a couple pics to keep the thread going
