Talking opinions 427 bbc or crate 350 290 hp ?

Hello everyone , I am at this strange fork in the road , I have rebuilt a 427 tall deck for my wrecker (if you don't know my truck click this link and it is all over my youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/beltstowing ) well I am about 30 min of work away from having the 427 ready to be swapped in , as of last friday night , I entered in the large 300+ car car show last saturday , and this is where my problems started ...I sort of won the grand prize of the show , what was it you ask , well it is a G.M. performance parts 350 4 bolt mail 290 H.P. crate engine ...so now I am beating my head into the wall over which engine to put in my truck ...the 427 will have more grunt I know that , and it will have the cool factor ...the 350 is not to shabby on grunt really , it is 100% new , and free which gives it a cool factor ...I know the 350 would be a 2 hour swap and be driving it , the 427 will require a trip to the exhaust shop , and some hillbilly engineering during the swap to get everything right , and also take a few days to complete ... so I am faced with the question which one to swap into my wrecker , they both should get the job done fine , but I think the big block might prove to get a better average fuel economy due to being a true truck grunt engine (my truck weighs 10,000 lbs )...give me some opinions and yes opinions are like a**holes , SO YOU ALL HAVE ONE !! lets hear them !

Other than thinking they look cool, I’ve never had much interest in a big block because of the weight penalty piled over the steering. I’ve always viewed them as more appropriate for really big heavy vehicles where the weight disadvantage is offset by the massive torque they generate can provide a real benefit. Like in a tow truck!

Small block Chevy’s are so popular the prize would be easy to sell or keep for later since it’s already boxed up for storage.

I would go with the BBC. My 64 C-10 had a 350 in it when I bought it. Not much horse power and only gets 10 MPG. In comparison my 71 Cadillac M&M Hearse weighs in at 6,680 lbs, has a 472 and gets 10 MPG. The hearse out performs my 64 C-10 in every aspect. It will out tow, out run & outright run circles around my C-10. My vote - go with the BBC!

Based on the thread title. I thought "Who would ask such a silly question?" but now I understand how you got to this fork.

Regardless, my vote would always be for the 427 over a "dime a dozen" crate 350.

I made me wander if I won the small block for a reason , and I thought I would see what everyone though , I also did a lot of research the past few days , and found the torque curve for the 350 , and for the 427 , the 350 makes peak torque at 5100 , the 427 at 2200 , with the sm420 trans you know that the split between 3 and 4 makes you run high rpm's or lug in the 2k rpm range , the big block should work a lot better just because of that alone , so it's big block time ...I should just use the 350 for the start of a rat rod , always wanted to build one anyways lol
